Spot application is used to control local infestations in hot spots some distance below the grain surface. The extent of the infested area is determined by probing. The fumigant is then introduced by pouring it into pipes inserted into the infested area on a 1-metre grid. The method is seldom completely successful but is used as a holding measure. Cette méthode convient au traitement des points d'échauffement. On insère dans le grain un tuyau ayant un diamètre minimal de 2,5 centimètres jusqu'à ce que l'extrémité atteigne un point situé au-dessous de la zone d'échauffement.
