Robotic grasping and manipulation in unknown environments is made difficult by several factors.... To make robots cheaper, lighter, and safer, precision in the accuracy of end-effector position is often sacrificed. This introduces uncertainty in the position of the gripper relative to the object. Robotic grasping theory must account for such uncertainty in order to provide robust and reliable grasping in unstructured environments. One method for dealing with such uncertainty is robotic caging. Unlike an immobilizing grasp, in which the robotic hand grasps an object so as to prevent all motion of the object relative to the hand, a caging grasp only prevents the object from escaping through the fingers, while allowing some motion of the object relative to the hand.

To avoid confusion(the term "grip" alone could refer to a certain way of grasping the racquet), use one of the following terms :"overgrip", "replacement grip" or "grip covering". A potential future Mars sample caching mission would acquire surface core samples with a rover and then store the samples in a canister that could be returned to Earth. The samples would likely be stored in individual sample tubes which are sealed. Significant care would be required to minimize contamination of the samples by Earth-source contaminants or by cross-contamination with material from other Mars sampling locations. Additionally, the system of sampling tool, sampling tool deployment device, and sample handling and encapsulation system would need to have minimal mass in order to fit on a small caching rover such as a MER-class rover. Past solutions have been problematic for various reasons including total system mass, sample contamination, or robustness. This problem applies to various potential future Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission architectures for returning samples from Mars to Earth including 1) a sample caching missionfollowed by a sample return mission where the caching mission rover would acquire and cache samples and a later sample return mission would have a fetch rover that retrieves the sample cache and return it to the landers Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV) for return to Earth, 2) an Astrobiology Field Laboratory mission with caching which would provide the caching mission function while also including in-situ sample analysis, and 3) a combined sampling and return mission which would combine the sample caching and return to Earth functions.

A specific type of tenosynovitis which involves the tendons of two specific muscles on the thumb side of the hand - the abductor pollicis longus (APL) and the extensor pollicis brevis (EPB). The walls of the affected tendon sheaths (basically protective coverings for the tendons) become thickened and inflamed.

Crib-biting and wind-sucking are different varieties of the same vice, which are learned chiefly by young horses. In each case the horse swallows air. A ’crib-biter’ effects this by grasping the edge of the manger or some other convenient fixture with the incisor teeth; it then raises the floor of the mouth; the soft palate is forced open; a swallowing movement occurs; and a gulp of air is passed down the gullet into the stomach. A ’wind-sucker’ achieves the same end, but it does not require a resting-place for the teeth.... Some horses which have been crib-biters learn to wind-suck when remedial measures are taken, and there are some wind-suckers which learn to crib-bite.

Dans le tic à l'appui, forme la plus fréquente, l'animal appuie ses dents sur un objet à sa portée, tel que le bord de sa mangeoire, le bas-flanc, la corde du licol, etc. Avec appui des dents, l'animal contracte les muscles de la partie antérieure de l'encolure, ce qui abaisse le larynx et la base de la langue et dilate le pharynx. Dans la plupart des cas, cette ouverture du pharynx est à l'origine du bruit caractéristique. Les chevaux qui tiquent souvent à l'appui présentent une usure anormale des incisives.

OBS

On note que le générique «tiquer» n'a pas d'équivalent parfait en anglais. On le traduit par les termes spécifiques «wind-suck» ou «crib-bite» («crib») selon le cas.

The experience of grasping a part. It includes everything from the cognitive understanding of the situation, to the mechanical interaction with the part. In our definition, prehension includes all the processes between the initial desire and the final finished function. For example, the desire begins with a wish to drink coffee. Then, based on experience a grip is chosen, the hand moves to the cup, manipulation occurs, drinking is performed, and the cup is set down again. Thus prehension is more then just the gripping action itself; it involves the complete thought processes from the beginning to the end of the task.
