In ballistics, the center of pressure is the point where all of the aerodynamic forces, particularly lift and drag, are equalized. If this point is behind or below the center of gravity, then the object is self-stabilizing. This is why fin stabilization works with missiles and similar military ordnance. The fins pull the center of pressure much further rearward.

A device used in some vapor-steam heating systems to return condensation to the boiler under varying pressure conditions of operation up to the working limit of the boiler.

Boiler Return Trap or Alternating Receiver. This type of trap is used to return condensate to a low pressure boiler. The boiler return trap does not hold steam as do other types, but is an adaptation of the lifting trap. It is used in conjunction with a boiler to prevent flooding return mains when excess pressure prevents condensate from returning to the boiler by gravity. The boiler trap collects condensate and equalizes the boiler and trap pressure, enabling the condensate in the trap to flow back to the boiler by gravity.

Puffed cereal products are prepared by placing the material in pressure cookers or puffing guns.

The guns, so-called, are pressure vessels about 6 in. in diameter and 30 in. long. They are provided with a steam inlet, a bleed-off valve, and a means for heating the gun-usually by a gas flame. The contents explode... into a cage or bin with a floor opening leading to a conveyor belt.

Corn steep water.

Cleaned corn grain is washed thoroughly and then steeped for 36 to 40 hours in approximately twice its volume of water containing 0. 2% SO2 at a temperature of 46-50 [degrees] C. The compression tank differs from the expansion tank of the obsolete gravity systems in this characteristic of maintaining system pressure. The compression tank is open only to the system water, whereas the gravity expansion tank was open to atmosphere as well as to the system, and consequently had to be located higher than the highest radiator. The compression tank may be located anywhere, although tank size decreases with increasing height above the boiler. In large systems economy may indicate a high position, rather than in the usual boiler-room area.

Pressure gravity. This method fills to a level. It is almost universally restricted to filling carbonated beverages. The flow principle is gravity as the force causing flow into the container. Like the gravity vacuum method, which fills by gravity in a vacuum atmosphere, this method fills by gravity in a pressure atmosphere. Product under pressure is held in an integral overhead supply tank on the rotary. Filling valves are mounted in the tank and are opened against spring pressure by the container being lifted to the valve. When the container is sealed to the valve, a mechanical latch opens a charging valve at the top of the valve vent tube which is above the product level in the supply tank.... Fill level is determined when the rising liquid covers a part in the vent tube through which the air in the container is exhausted as product flows in.

The operating principle of pressure screens is similar to gravity centrifugal screens. The distinction is that they operate under full line pressure and the radial flow within the unit can be either centrifugal(outward), centripetal(inward) or a combination depending on design. They have the advantage of high capacity per unit, flexibility of physical location, small space requirements and economy of piping and pumping. The totally enclosed design excludes air entrainment and minimizes slime buildup.

Pressure screens were first used in paper machine approach systems where their main function was to remove gross contaminants and protect the papier machine forming fabric. More recently, with refinements and modifications in design, various configurations are being utilized in virtually all fine screening applications.
