A Canadian Sport Review Panel, comprised of sport technical experts, will assess the quality and additional needs of the high performance programs of all funding partner clients, with a focus on Olympic/Paralympic sports. The Panel will provide recommendations to the Government of Canada and other national funding partners on the amount and priority areas for the allocation of funding required to support Olympic/Paralympic high performance programs. The Adult Injury Management Network(AIMNet) at the University of Victoria has an established track record in the area of fall and fall-related injury prevention among older people. AIMNet is recognized as a national leader in the field of injury prevention. Partners : British Columbia Injury Research and Prevention Unit at the Centre for Community Health & Health Evaluation Research(Children's & Women's Health Centre of B. C.), the Institute on Health of the Elderly(University of Ottawa) and the School of Nutrition & Dietetics(Acadia University). The goal of this project is to reduce falls and fall-related injuries among residents of long-term care facilities in several pilot sites across Canada. The proposed model focuses on the determinants of health that put residents of care facilities at greatest risk of sustaining a fall and related injuries. Through the creation of networks of support and information, this project aims to strengthen the capacities of both the residents of these facilities and those who care for them. Le Réseau de gestion des traumatismes chez les adultes (RGTA) à l'Université de Victoria, est bien connu pour ses activités de prévention des chutes et des blessures liées aux chutes chez les aînés. Le RGTA est considéré comme un chef de file à l'échelle nationale dans le domaine de la prévention des blessures. Partenaires : La British Columbia Injury Research and Prevention Unit, au Centre for Community Health & Health Evaluation Research (Children's & Women's Health Centre of B.C.), l'Institute on Health of the Elderly (Université d'Ottawa) et la School of Nutrition & Dietetics (Université Acadia) Ce projet vise à réduire les chutes et les blessures liées aux chutes chez les résidents des établissements de soins de longue durée dans plusieurs régions pilotes du Canada. Terrance Stanley "Terry" Fox, CC(July 28, 1958--June 28, 1981) was a Canadian humanitarian, athlete, and cancer treatment activist. He became famous for his Marathon of Hope, a cross-Canada run to raise money for cancer research, running with only one leg. Terrance Stanley Fox, C.C. (28 juillet 1958 -- 28 juin 1981) était un athlète canadien et un activiste pour le traitement du cancer. On le considère comme un des plus grands héros du Canada du XXème siècle. Il est né à Winnipeg, au Manitoba, et a été élevé à Port Coquitlam, en Colombie-Britannique, petite ville située près de Vancouver sur la côte ouest du Canada. Très actif et sportif dans l'adolescence, Terry n'a que 18 ans lorsque les médecins diagnostiquent un sarcome ostéogénique (cancer des os) et amputent sa jambe droite six pouces au-dessus du genou en 1977. Durant son séjour à l'hôpital, Terry est très affecté par la terrible souffrance des autres patients qui sont, eux aussi, atteints du cancer; plusieurs d'entre eux ne sont que des enfants. C'est à ce moment que Terry décide de courir d'un bout à l'autre du Canada afin de recueillir des fonds pour la recherche sur le cancer. P. Clifford Sifton, the Minister of the Interior from 1896 to 1905, was the driving force behind the greatest immigration scheme in Canadian history. Through his efforts, the Department of the Interior distributed tens of thousands of pamphlets similar to this 30-page atlas on western Canada. The atlas describes the opportunities and the free homesteads that were available for prospective immigrants in western Canada.
