Le terme anglais provient d'un texte intitulé «The classless school». Il a été rédigé par M. Guy Hamel, qui occupe le poste de «professional services officer» au South-Winnipeg Technical Center (P.O. Box 145, 130 Henlow Bay, Fort Whyte, Manitoba R3Y 1G5 - tél. : (204) 488-2451). Un architexte-paysagiste anglophone de cette province a proposé ce terme à M. Hamel. Le texte porte sur des cours de recyclage offerts à des fermiers.
