Adult-onset vitelliform macular dystrophy (AVMD) is an inherited maculopathy characterized by metamorphopsias and decrease in visual acuity occurring between the fourth and the sixth decade. It is characterized by an "egg yolk" macular lesion eventually evolving towards foveal atrophy and fibrosis.

It is characterized by a focal, round or oval shaped, subretinal yellowish foveal lesion, often with one or more pigment stops on the anterior surface at the level of the pigment epithelium. The lesions may vary in size but are typically one third to one half of a disc diameter, and are usually bilateral and symmetrical. Patients usually present in the fourth or fifth decade of life and tend to have minimal visual symptoms... The disorder differs from... Best's disease... in that foveal lesions are smaller, it presents at a later age, it does not demonstrate evolutionary changes of the foveal lesion, and the light-induced rise in ocular potential is rarely absent.

The nanomotor has a positioning stroke up to some centimeters while operating with atomic resolution and thus builds a bridge over eight orders of magnitude. The nanomotor is a piezo driven linear motor consisting of a cylindrical housing and a slider with a free axial hole inside. It utilizes a piezo tube for fine positioning and a pulse wave produced by the same piezo tube for coarse movements. Every point of its stroke can be reached with a speed of up to 5 mm/s. In its free axial hole the nanomotor can transport a tip, a hose, an electrode, a hypodermic needle, a glass fiber or even a microgripper. The nanomotor is available in three different versions. The "small" nanomotor is half the size of a match stick. It can lift six times of its own mass. The dynamic force of this nanomotor is so high, that even imprints in diamond surfaces can be produced. Special versions of the nanomotor can operate in ultra high vacuum, in liquid helium, even under water or as non-magnetic drives.

Close Inbreeding. The closest possible inbreeding is to mate a parent and its offspring together(mother and son, or father and daughter). This way the mated animals share half of their genetic make-up as offspring inherit half of their genes from each parent. The CargoLifter is an airship, which can carry up to 160t of freight like a crane. Goods up to the size of 12 x 5 x 5 m can be carried at a speed of 100 km/h. Maximum range is 10. 000 km.... The advantage of CargoLifter is, that transport can take place in rural areas with little or no infrastructure. Transport times are cut by a factor of 10 and the complexity of the project is reduced significantly.... The loading cycle will take about half a day to unload and 3/4 days to load. The CargoLifter can take 72 TEU in a box, but the weight volume ratio is very low(1 : 20). The weight alone would account for 136t or 85% of the payload. The remaining 44t can take 2800 cubic meters of space(weight to volume of 1 : 62).... CargoLifter will use marine diesel engines and propellers for thrust. Installed power is expected to be 9. 3 MW, for a top speed of 135 km/h. The average speed will be about 100 km/h, which requires about 5 MW and an hourly fuel consumption of 1 tonne(specific fuel burn approx. 200 g/kWh).

The most widely used parameter of droplet size is the volume median diameter(Vmd) measured in micrometres. A representative sample of droplets of a spray is divided into two equal parts by volume so that one half of the volume contains droplets smaller than a droplet whose diameter is the vmd, and the other half of the volume contains larger droplets.

Drop-size distribution: The frequency distribution of drop sizes (diameters, volumes) that is characteristic of a given cloud or of a given fall of rain... For many purposes a useful single parameter representing a given distribution is the volume median diameter, i.e., that diameter for which the total volume of all drops having greater diameters is just equal to the total volume of all drops having smaller diameters.

Propagating from softwood cuttings : 1. To grow shrubs from cuttings of softwood, the young growth of late spring or early summer, remove 5 to 7 inches of healthy stem tips.
