A constant of great practical importance since it is equal to the substrate concentration required to reach half the maximum velocity. This constant of a substrate is therefore, a measure of the affinity of the enzyme for that substrate : the lower the constant, the higher the affinity. A typical multi-head breaker is a rubber-tired, self-propelled unit which carries 1, 000 to 1, 500 pound hammers mounted laterally in pairs. Half of the hammers are in a forward row and the remainder diagonally offset in a rear row so that there is continuous breakage from side to side. Each pair of hammers is attached to a hydraulic lift cylinder which operates as an independent unit. Each unit can develop between 1, 000 and 8, 000 foot pounds of energy depending upon drop height selected. The units can cycle at a rate of 30 to 35 impacts per minute. The typical machine is eight foot wide and carries twelve hammers eight inches in width. An extension wing, carrying two 1, 500 pound hammers, can be added to each side for a total breaking width of up to 13 feet. Pavement breaking can be as narrow as 2. 67 feet or increased in increments up to 13 feet. Typical production rates per machine are 6000-8000 square yards per day.

DIDO Experiment Container is essentially a box with a side length of 150 mm. Design philosophy of DIDO experiment foreseen an "all inside" approach, so(at this moment) the experiment container is a mere box with no windows or openings, or relevant external features. DIDO EC is intended as a structural part for the inside experiment; only mechanical, electrical and data interfaces are required to connect DIDO EC with GLAD facility. The box is assembled as one piece but the topside is removable to have access to DIDO experiment. In this way the topside component works as a cover plate. The EC is made by(TBD) material and to meet safety requirements EC' s corners are slightly rounded, materials must not be flammable and machined with non-toxic surface treatment. Cover plate is connected with the box through screws. The bottom side, instead, compose the "first plate" of DIDO experiment, housing tanks and pumping system. Another plate placed about half height provides a "second plate" for DIDO cell and relative optics, laser unit and CCD camera.

OBS

Rice(Oryza sativa L.) production in the Everglades Agricultural Area(EAA) of southern Florida has been expanding steadily since 1978(Coale et al., 1993). In 1992, 9000 ha of rice were planted on organic soils(Histosols) in the EAA, and half of that hectarage was ratoon cropped(Coale et al., 1993). Ratoon cropping, a second harvest of rice from tillers produced from auxiliary buds on remaining stubble following main-crop harvest, allows for more efficient utilization of the long, wet, subtropical growing season of the EAA and, thus, increases rice production per unit area.
