Space telerobotics is an inherently complex task, requiring mental visualization skills, fine motor visualization skills, fine motor control, and adhering to procedure and flight rules. Often space telerobotics is accomplished only using video views of the work area, so the robotic arm operator must interpret two dimensional images to create a 3D [three-dimensional] mental model of the environment and their position inside it, all the while being aware of arm kinematics and limitations, avoiding collisions, and following procedural flight rules. Dextre [Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator] is designed so that only one arm can move at a time in order to avoid self-collision, achieve greater stability and maintain operational similarity with Canadarm2. The greater stability is provided by the immobile arm, which is first commanded to anchor Dextre to an ISS [International Space Station] stabilization point. At the tip of each arm, we find a "hand", known technically as the Orbital Replacement Unit/Tool Changeout Mechanism(OTCM). Ovens can, of course, be hand loaded with pans or straps. This arduous task is accomplished by mechanical means in nearly all large volume shops, however. The principle of operation of loading devices is relatively simple. Pans move over roller conveyors form the final steam proofer to a point in front of the relatively oven loading door. Their momentum carries them onto a series of rollers at right angles to the previous conveyor and parallel to the oven door. When a series of pans the width of the tray or hearth has collected, they are pushed into the oven.
