Terminus [...] désigne un point d'arrêt extrême d'une ligne d'aviation, de chemin de fer, de transport maritime ou fluvial, de transport routier (autocars) ou de transport urbain (autobus ou métro). «Terminus» n'a ni le sens de «gare» ni celui de «station», sauf dans le cas des stations extrêmes. [...] une «station» [...] est un point d'arrêt d'une ligne de transport terrestre où se trouve un ensemble d'installations pour l'embarquement et le débarquement des voyageurs et des marchandises. Les «stations» extrêmes sont les «stations terminus». [...] une «gare» [...] est le bâtiment ou l'ensemble des bâtiments qui font partie des installations d'une station [...] : toute station a sa gare. [...] Dans le langage courant, «gare» se dit comme synonyme de «station» pour les transports interurbains : [...] le parc de stationnement de la gare des autocars. [...] Au Canada, dans le transport routier surtout, on confond les sens de gare, station et terminus. On ne peut appeler «terminus» une «gare» (ou une «station») d'une ligne d'autocars où les véhicules ne s'arrêtent que pour les besoins locaux, même si cette gare sert de terminus à une ligne secondaire d'autocars. Il ne faut pas dire, par exemple, le «terminus» des autocars à Granby au lieu de la gare ou la station des autocars à Granby.

Les points d'arrêts où un véhicule de transport public [...] s'arrête pour prendre ou laisser des voyageurs, sans que le temps d'arrêt soit fixé par l'horaire et où il n'y a pas de «gare», ne sont pas des «stations» mais des «haltes».

Noter qu'en langage strict, l'autocar est un véhicule de transport interurbain alors que l'autobus est un véhicule de transport urbain.

In Car Service terminology, a car intended for and belonging to a railroad with which the handling carrier does not have an interchange. In the case of box cars of indirect ownership mechanically designated as "XM", there exists a short routing plan(CSD-90 or SCO-90) established and controlled by the A. A. R., which allows each railroad to dispose of these cars when empty to certain railroads and at specified junction points without regard to prior inbound route of loaded movement of the cars. In the case of gondolas and flats of indirect ownership with a specified mechanical designation, short routing plan SCO-100 is used.

The best known operational demand-assignment multiple-access(DAMA) system is called SPADE(Single-channel per carrier PCM Multiple-Access Demand-Assignment Equipment).... SPADE increased the traffic handling capabilities of INTELSAT satellites and made the establishment of new small capacity links more economical.... In the SPADE system a specific satellite radio-frequency band is divided on the basis of assigning a single data or PCM converted voice channel per RF carrier.... Neither end of a channel is permanently connected with any given terminal, and the channels are paired to form two-way circuits within the demand-assignment pool.

Le système SPADE. Introduit par INTELSAT dans un réseau vers 1971, c'est le premier système à porteuses monovoies utilisant un répéteur de 36MHz de couverture globale d'un satellite d'INTELSAT (tels ceux de satellites INTELSAT IV, IV-A et V). La bande du répéteur est divisée en 800 canaux de 45 kHz chacun constituant une réserve commune de fréquences utilisables à la demande par n'importe quelle station du réseau. La parole est transmise sous forme de signaux numériques avec modulation par impulsions et codage.
