Shuffleboard courts can be located inside or outdoors. The playing surface must be smooth enough to allow the disc to slide down it, and is usually a hard surface such as wood, concrete, or terrazzo. In the official version the standard shuffleboard court is 25 feet long and 6 feet wide. The two scoring areas are triangles located near the ends of the court that are farthest apart.

A term used to describe a particular diskette format, and way of recording on the diskette.

Soft sectored discs are pre-formatted, having data fields that are changed and updated. The first track of a soft sectored diskette identifies the disc, the next four tracks store basic information such as the track and sector location of stored material. Since soft sectored diskettes require a format, less storage capacity is available(250K bytes out of possible 400K) for text storage than is available with hard sectored diskettes.
