A test used to diagnose benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) that consists of a series of head, neck, and body movements that reproduce the vertigo sensation.

The Dix-Hallpike test is typically performed in a doctor's office. The doctor will ask you to sit upright on an exam table with your legs stretched out in front of you and your head turned to one side. They will then ask you to lower your head and torso back so that you end up lying with your head stretched off the edge of the exam table, turned with one ear down at a 45-degree angle. If there are misplaced calcium deposits(also called canaliths) in the posterior canal of your inner ear, this will trigger vertigo symptoms.

Benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of vertigo. The Dix-Hallpike maneuver is the gold standard test used to diagnose BPPV, which is crucial in confirming posterior canal BPPV.

Modern "glass cockpits" like those in the Boeing 777, the F-117 stealth fighter and Shuttle Atlantis represent a revolution in the way cockpits for aircraft and spacecraft are designed and built today. The first hints of this revolution appeared in the 1970s when flight-worthy cathode ray tube (CRT) screens began to replace a few of the electromechanical displays, gauges and instruments that had served so well for so long. These new "glass" instruments, as few and as primitive as they were, gave the cockpit a distinctly different look and suggested the name, "glass cockpit."

A city of the Yukon Territory and its capital since 1953, located at kilometre 1476, just off the Alaska Highway. The city lies mainly on the western side of the Yukon River, nestled in a protected valley surrounded by Canyon Mountain(locally known as Grey Mountain) to the east, Haeckel Hill to the northwest and Golden Horn Mountain to the south. Located at the head of navigation on the Yukon River, Whitehorse grew significantly by becoming a temporary stopping point--past two major obstacles on the river, Miles Canyon and the Whitehorse Rapids--for prospectors heading for Dawson(then known as "Dawson City") during the Klondike Gold Rush Years(1897-1899). In 1900, with the completion of the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway from Skagway in Alaska, to Carcross and Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory, the community grew around the point where the railway and river met, on the western side of the Yukon River. After the gold rush, Whitehorse's population dropped, but with the help of navigation and aviation companies, the British Yukon Navigation Company building riverboats and operating them to Dawson until 1954, and the British Yukon Aviation Company transporting mail, freight and passengers, the economy was kept afloat. During World War II, Whitehorse played a significant role as a key link in the north-south transportation system, hosting the Americans and Canadians in charge of expanding the air link that was the Northwest Staging Route(a series of airfields across the Northwest), building the 2300-km Alaska Highway, or constructing the Canol Pipeline from Norman Wells, N. W. T., and an oil refinery at Whitehorse. In 1950, Whitehorse was incorporated as a city. In 1953, the territorial capital of the Yukon was moved from Dawson to Whitehorse, adding the government sector to an economy made of the mining(copper, silver and lead-zinc), tourist and oil industries. When the angle of ice steepens, and more security than the cross-body technique(piolet ramasse) provides is desirable, the axe is planted in the anchor position(piolet ancre)... : with the outside hand just above the spike, the axe is swung so that the pick is anchored in the ice in front and above the climber's head with the shaft parallel to the slope. The inside hand reaches up and grasps the axe head in the self-arrest position. By pulling down on the anchored axe, the climber steps up to a new in-balance position. A gentle and constant outward pull must be kept on the shaft to set the teeth and keep the axe locked into the ice. The axe is removed by pushing the shaft toward the ice and lifting the pick up and out of the ice.

When the slope becomes too steep to descend facing outward, the climber faces sideways and descends diagonally .... Footwork changes from the duck walk (en canard) to the same flat-foot technique which was used to ascend diagonally. The axe is used in the anchor position (piolet ancre): with the outside arm, the climber swings the axe out in front and plants the pick in the ice, then flat-foots diagonally down below the axe. The shaft rotates as the climber passes below it.

The probes are retained in the stowed position, against the primary strut, until landing gear deployment. During deployment, mechanical interlocks are released permitting spring energy to extend the probes so that the probe head is approximately 5 feet below the footpad. When any probe touches the lunar surface, pressure on the probe head will complete the circuit that advises the astronauts to shut down the descent engine.

The fire extinguishing equipment for an airliner such as the Douglas DC-10 incorporates three systems with six pressurized agent containers, two for each engine. The containers for the wing-mounted engines are located in pairs in the leading edge of the wing between the nacelle and the fuselage on each side of the aircraft.... The discharge cartridge is an electrically fired explosive unit that provides force to rupture the disk seal in the outlet port of the container and release the extinguishing agent to the deployment lines. One discharge cartridge is installed on each wing-mounted container and two are installed on the aft-engine container. The discharge cartridge contains two squibs(explosive charges) that are fired by an electric circuit that heats the powder to the ignition point. When the fire extinguisher control handle is pulled down, the electric circuit is closed and the squibs are fired. The force of the explosion ruptures the disk seal, thus releasing the extinguishing agent. A screen in the discharge head prevents particles of the disk from entering the deployment line.

The flame detector head is mounted on a 1" sight pipe which provides an unobstructed view of the flame inside the horn.

This fibre optic viewing head extension is particularly useful for solving the sighting problems associated with tilting or movable burners. The flame envelope from this type of burner can be tilted from a horizontal position up or down as much as 30 degrees. It would be impossible to follow this flame pattern with a fixed sighting through the wind-box. Welding the tip guide(lens end) of this viewing head extension to the movable air compartment nozzle solves this problem. This viewing head extension can also be used for those applications where it is impossible to find a clear unobstructed view of the flame using a standard sight pipe. Here again the viewing head extension is mounted inside the furnace for a clear unobstructed view of the flame.

The name Arthrodira means "jointed neck" These advanced preditory placoderms had a movable joint between the head(cephalic) and the thoracic(body) armor... The mouth is interesting because as the lower jaw moved down the head shield moved up, thus giving a wide gape. Like all placoderms, they lacked teeth, instead using the sharpened edges of a bony plate as a biting surface.

The [intermittent extrusion] process has three subcategories : the reciprocating screw method, the ram accumulator method, and the accumulator head method.... The ram accumulator method, which is no longer in widespread use, is intended for heavy parts weighing 2 kg or more. Much like the reciprocating screw, the system is used to quickly extrude heavy parisons that might sag or draw down from gravity. The accumulator is a reservoir mounted alongside the extruder. A piston or plunger pushes the melt through the extrusion head. Unlike the reciprocating screw, melt that enters the reservoir first is the last to leave.
