Gyro de transfert. La grande problématique du navigateur était de décoller avec un cap vrai le plus précis possible pour se garantir une navigation sans trop d'histoires. Il avait été imaginé un conservateur de cap installé dans une Renault 4L qui stationnait près du bureau de piste. Avant chaque départ en mission la 4L était utilisée pour caler la centrale gyroscopique du Mirage IV au moyen du gyro de transfert prévu à cet effet dans son coffre. Heading rapid alignment involves the operation of three distinct servo loops. The variation/grivation servo loop, the azimuth gimbal servo loop and the resultant positioning servo loop. The variation/grivation servo loop responds to magnetic heading information from the flux valve. The azimuth gimbal servo loop responds to the error signal from the azimuth synchro TX. Les coordonnées du point de départ, données de base des calculs, sont introduites par le pilote dans le calculateur de la centrale [à inertie] au moment de l'alignement de la centrale à l'arrêt, avant le décollage.
