After more than five years of serving the children and youth of Eastern Ontario, CHEO Health Information Line closed on December 14, 2001 to make way for a province-wide. With Telehealth Ontario now accessible in all Eastern Ontario, the CHEO line is no longer available. Telehealth Ontario is a free telephone-based health advice service that is being introduced by the Provincial Government throughout the province. It provides Ontario residents access to a registered nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. CHEO's health information line was initiated in the mid 1990s to respond to the increasing demand for health advice in the field of pediatrics. Après plus de cinq ans de services aux enfants et aux adolescents de l'est de l'Ontario, la Ligne d'information sur la santé du CHEO ferme le 14 décembre 2001, pour faire place à un service à l'échelle de la province. Télésanté Ontario étant maintenant disponible dans tout l'est de l'Ontario, la ligne du CHEO n'existera plus. Télésanté Ontario est un service gratuit de conseils téléphoniques qui sera introduit par le gouvernement provincial dans tout l'Ontario. Il fournit aux résidents de cette province accès à une infirmière autorisée 24 heures par jour, 7 jours par semaine. La ligne d'information sur la santé du CHEO avait été lancée vers le milieu des années 90 pour répondre à une demande accrue en matière de conseils en pédiatrie. Beginning in 2000, a group of concerned citizens met regularly to discuss models of protection for the Ottawa River. In 2001, they formed a board of directors and started Ottawa Riverkeeper, the third waterkeeper program in Canada to be licensed by the international Waterkeeper Alliance.... The citizen-based Ottawa Riverkeeper is the voice that works to protect and enhance the ecological health and integrity of the Ottawa River system. Through expert, independent action Ottawa Riverkeeper encourages responsible decision-making, public education and participation, and compliance with existing protection regulations throughout the watershed. Ottawa Riverkeeper is an independent science-based organization concerned first and foremost with the protection of the Ottawa River's ecological integrity. We have seen a number of name changes over the last 60 years as the words Blue Cross were becoming synonymous worldwide with quality health care coverage. We were founded as the Maritime Hospital Service Association in 1943 and became known as the Maritime Blue Cross-Blue Shield Association in 1954. We became Blue Cross of Atlantic Canada in 1986 and, when joined with Maritime Medical Care in 1999, the trade name Atlantic Blue Cross Care was adopted. Our expansion into the Quebec and Ontario markets led to the need for a new name that would encompass all three regions. We created the name "Medavie" because it decribes our business and works well in both our English and French markets. Medavie is derived from the English and French words for "medical" and "to life". Au cours des 60 dernières années, il y a eu de nombreux changements de nom alors que les mots « Croix Bleue » devenaient, à l'échelle mondiale, synonymes de protection-santé de qualité. Nous avons été fondés avec le nom Maritime Hospital Service Association en 1943 et sommes devenus connus sous le nom de Maritime Blue-Cross Blue Shield Association en 1954. Nous sommes devenus La Croix Bleue du Canada atlantique en 1986 et, après la fusion avec Maritime Medical Care en 1999, le nom commercial de Service Croix Bleue de l'Atlantique a été adopté. Notre expansion sur les marchés du Québec et de l'Ontario a entraîné la nécessité d'avoir un nouveau nom qui engloberait les trois régions. Nous avons créé le nom « Medavie » parce qu'il décrit notre entreprise et qu'il fonctionne bien en français et en anglais. Le terme « Medavie » vient de « med » pour « medical » et de « à vie ».
