The Canadian Institutes of Health Research(CIHR) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada(SSHRC) were pleased to announce funding offered under the Community Alliances for Health Research Program. The CAHR Program is one of several transition programs launched in October of 1999 leading to the creation of CIHR. The intent of the CAHR Program is to foster excellent research of relevance to community groups and agencies in the four themes of health research : biomedical, clinical, health services and systems and population health including the social, cultural and environmental determinants of health. The program facilitates mutual learning and collaboration among community organizations and partnerships with researchers based in local universities, hospitals and other not-for-profit institutions. IRSC (Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada) et le Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines du Canada (CRSH) étaient heureux d'annoncer le financement offert dans le cadre du Programme des alliances communautaires pour la recherche en santé (ACRS). Le Programme des ACRS est l'un des nombreux programmes de transition inaugurés en octobre 1999 qui ont conduit à la création des IRSC. Le but visé dans le cadre du Programme des ACRS est de favoriser des recherches de grande qualité qui seraient utiles à des groupes et organismes communautaires, dans le cadre des quatre thèmes de la recherche en santé : la recherche biomédicale, la recherche clinique, la recherche sur les services et systèmes de santé, ainsi que la recherche sur la santé des populations, incluant les déterminants sociaux, culturels et environnementaux de la santé. Le programme favorise l'apprentissage et la collaboration mutuels entre des organismes communautaires ainsi que l'établissement de partenariats avec des chercheurs travaillant dans des universités, des hôpitaux et d'autres établissements à but non lucratif d'une région. The Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation(AHSC) offers a wide range of primary through tertiary level health care services delivered by a dedicated staff of 4, 400 employees and 275(active) physicians. Twenty-one clinical programs are delivered through in-patient, emergency, ambulatory and community/home care settings. Saint John is the primary referral centre for the people of this region and, in a number of tertiary services, for people throughout the province. La Corporation des sciences de la santé de l'Atlantique (CSSA) offre une vaste gamme de services de soins de santé, allant du niveau primaire au niveau tertiaire, fournis par un personnel spécialisé comptant plus de 4 400 employé(e)s et 275 médecins (qui pratiquent). Vingt-et-un programmes cliniques sont offerts aux patients et patientes hospitalisés, à l'urgence, à l'unité de soins ambulatoires, à domicile et dans les établissements de soins communautaires. Saint John est le principal centre d'aiguillage pour les résident(e)s de cette région et, dans le cas de certains services tertiaires, pour les résident(e)s de toute la province.
