The House of Commons is the custodian of an important collection of art and artifacts reflecting Canada's social and political history. Many of these works are displayed throughout Parliament, including its committee rooms. This painting, Ghosts of Vimy Ridge, is currently on loan to the new Canadian War Museum, but its permanent home is the Centre Block's historic Railway Committee Room. The old Custom House(now part of Pointe-à-Callière, the Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History) was built in 1836, to keep pace with the expanding Port. Goods could pass through customs here in Montréal rather than having to stop off in Québec City. Brandon, Manitoba. The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum is a non-profit, charitable organization founded and operated by volunteers. The Museum is dedicated to preservation of the history of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and honoring those airmen who trained and served, and especially those who died while serving their country in the conflict of 1939-1945. The International Tennis Hall of Fame is a non-profit tennis museum at the Newport Casino in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. It maintains a Hall of Fame for prominent personalities and players from the tennis world. It was founded in 1954 by James Van Alen and is now the largest tennis museum in the world. Commencing in 1974 and produced by the Education and Cultural Affairs Division of the National Museum of Man in conjunction with the relevant research divisions, the Museum Kits were multi-media, thematic, learning packages which were loaned free of charge for two-week intervals to schools community groups, libraries, etc. Each "museum in a box" included artifacts, specimens and related interpretive material such as films, maps, fact sheets, slides and resource books. There were two types of kits-a small kit with limited artifacts and resource materials, usually in separate language versions and the larger, bilingual, more complex kits, with resources inserted according to the requirements of the borrowers. The kits were designed for the 11-14 age group and were to promote an understanding and appreciation for Canada's multicultural heritage as well as the functions and importance of human history museums within Canada. Exhibition of the Canadian Museum of Civilization. "Inuit living in the western Canadian Arctic call themselves "Inuvialuit", meaning "real human beings", and have long considered themselves distinct from other Canadian Inuit. Today this distinct identity has a political dimension; the Inuvialuit chose not to join Nunavut(the new Inuit territory in the eastern Arctic), but to remain in the Northwest Territories under their own land claim agreement. The exhibition "Inuvialuit" explores the history of this unique Arctic people, from their first arrival in the Canadian Arctic from Alaska about a thousand years ago to the modern era. The exhibition highlights material collected by fur trader Roderick MacFarlane in the 1860s, and the photographic resources of the Anglican Archives, dating from the 1890s. Cette identité particulière a aujourd'hui une dimension politique : les Inuvialuits ont choisi de demeurer dans les Territoires-du-Nord- Ouest en vertu de leur propre accord sur les revendications territoriales, plutôt que d'intégrer le Nunavut (le nouveau territoire inuit dans l'est de l'Arctique). While the immigrants who came during the first migratory wave(1880 to the late 1920s) have already disappeared, those who arrived during the second wave(1947 to the late 1960s) are an increasingly ageing population. As their numbers gradually decrease in the coming years, the last living witnesses of the multiple peasant cultures from which most Italian-Canadians descended will disappear as well.
