The body weight squat is perhaps the best lower body exercise a person can do. It basically works all the major muscle groups of the thighs, glutes and hamstrings.... A rain garden is a garden of native shrubs, perennials, and flowers planted in a small depression, which is generally formed on a natural slope. Dans cette hypothèse, la décharge de corium se fait dans le puits de cuve aménagé en un réceptacle depuis lequel on cherche à accumuler et à retenir de façon provisoire au moyen d'une porte fusible la totalité du corium en provenance de la cuve. Quand la porte fusible cède, l'étalement du corium se fait dans une chambre [...] exempte d'eau. L'idée maîtresse de l'absence d'eau à ce stade est d'éviter le risque d'une explosion vapeur. Enfin, après étalement, le corium est noyé sous eau de manière à favoriser un refroidissement de longue durée. [...] Pour valider le bon fonctionnement de concept de récupérateur, il faut [...] procéder à plusieurs vérifications, à savoir l'étalement correct du corium, la bonne tenue des matériaux constituants le récupérateur, l'efficacité du refroidissement par noyage du corium étalé, le fonctionnement de la porte fusible.

[The National Weather Services uses]... a "Standard Rain Gage"(SRG) [consisting] of a funnel 8 inches in diameter, leading to a tube inside the gage. The rainfall is measured using a specially calibrated dipstick. During the winter, the funnel and inside tube are removed; snow falls into the main container, and then is melted to determine the liquid equivalent of the snowfall.

The Universal [rain gauge] is a weighing type of gauge with mechanical linkages that lead to a pen on a strip-chart. In the NWS [National Weather Services], the gauge orifice has usually been 8 inches in diameter. The gauge is used in all seasons and has an antifreeze-type solution so the snow in winter melts and is added to the total liquid. ... The Standard Rain Gauge (SRG) is similar to the Universal in diameter but is simply a can that collects precipitation to be read manually. Both the Universal and the SRG could be considered a standard gauge with an 8 inch diameter.

The Insect Habitat (IH) was designed to support a variety of insect species. However, during the initial flight increments, it will be dedicated to experiments using Drosophila melanogaster, or fruit flies. The Insect Habitat will enable studies of the fruit fly to learn how microgravity affects development, nervous system function, movement and behavior, growth, reproduction, aging, gene expression, mutagenesis from radiation and circadian rhythms or sleep/wake cycles.

The IH will support single-and multi-generation experiments that have approximate external dimensions of 13. 5 cm(L) x 2. 25 cm(D) x 7. 0 cm(H) each. The flies will live in two chevron-shaped container elements. These containers can be divided into two parts using the internal food cylinders; this yields two 55 ml containers that can support up to 100 Drosophila through to egg-laying. Alternatively, the containers can be left undivided, which yields a single 110 ml volume that supports up to 200 Drosophila.... The two insect containers reside in the science element portion of the IH. The science element consists of two environmentally controlled "drawers. "Each drawer contains a centrifuge that can provide up to 2G. Each centrifuge will hold six insect containers. Typically, one drawer will have a microgravity environment and the other drawer will have a defined gravity environment, although the precise gravity regimen for each centrifuge can be determined by the researcher.

Habitats in the Space Station Fundamental Biology Research Facility (SSFBRF) enable studies on a variety of organisms across multiple science disciplines. They allow scientists to conduct experiments in habitats that are similar in design to those that have been used in labs for ground studies. Each habitat provides life support, environmental control, and monitoring systems and can be housed in one or more of the three major host systems: the Centrifuge, Life Sciences Glovebox, and Habitat Holding Rack. This hardware was designed to automate as much as possible, thus providing maximizing science return while requiring minimal crew time.
