Computer simulation of single-well steam assisted gravity drainage(SW-SAGD).... Steam assisted gravity drainage(SAGD) is an effective method of producing heavy oil and bitumen. In a typical SAGD approach, steam is injected into a horizontal well located directly above a horizontal producer. A steam chamber grows around the injection well and helps displace heated oil toward the production well. Single-well(SW) SAGD attempts to create a similar process using only one horizontal well. This may include steam injection from the toe of the horizontal well with production at the heel. Obvious advantages of SW-SAGD include cost savings and utility in relatively thin reservoirs. However, the process is technically challenging. Le procédé SAGD («steam-assisted gravity drainage») dans sa version d'origine suppose l'utilisation de deux puits horizontaux situés dans un même plan vertical et distants l'un de l'autre de 3 à 6 m. Le puits supérieur est utilisé pour injecter de la vapeur d'eau. Celle-ci forme ce que l'on appelle une chambre de vapeur, cède sa chaleur au contact de l'huile en place et se condense en eau liquide au niveau de ce contact. L'huile voit sa viscosité diminuer par cet apport de chaleur et peut s'écouler plus facilement. L'huile et l'eau liquide s'écoulent le long de la chambre de vapeur sous l'action de la gravité vers le puits horizontal inférieur. Afin de limiter le nombre de puits, des ingénieurs ont proposé de réaliser l'injection de vapeur et la production de l'huile réchauffée et de l'eau due à la condensation de la vapeur, dans un unique puits horizontal. Les essais réalisés sur champ n'ont pas été probants et cette technologie avec un seul puits a quasiment été abandonnée. Dans le domaine de la production améliorée des bruts lourds, on peut distinguer 5 méthodes : - injection de vapeur : cette méthode est la plus couramment employée dans le domaine de la récupération améliorée. Deux principales stratégies peuvent être adoptées : 1) celle de la stimulation par injection cyclique («Huff and Puff»), qui consiste à injecter la vapeur de façon discontinue (cyclique) et de récupérer l'huile au même endroit. Cette technique a l'avantage de produire rapidement de l'huile, donc d'augmenter la productivité, cependant elle ne permet pas un taux de récupération élevé des huiles en place; 2) celle de l'entraînement à la vapeur («Steam Drive»), qui consiste à injecter la vapeur sur une longue période à partir d'un puits spécifiquement dédié à cette fonction et de récupérer l'huile dans d'autres puits situés aux environs. Cette technique, à l'inverse de celle à injection cyclique, permet d'atteindre de façon progressive un taux de récupération élevé. Parmi ces technologies, on pourra distinguer celle de l'entraînement à la vapeur par zone annulaire chauffée («Heated Annulus Steam Drive») et celle de drainage gravitaire renforcé par la vapeur («Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage»). La deuxième (SAGD) commence à faire ses preuves aujourd'hui. Wascana Energy Inc. and Alberta Research Council invite you to attend an information session to describe the Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding(TTHW) process.... Background With the advent of horizontal wells in Improved Oil Recovery of heavy oils, a change is taking place in the approach to improved recovery of oil. Currently, there is a move from displacing oil in a flood pattern from injector to producers over long distances(of the order of hundreds of meters) to short-distance oil displacement(SDOD) processes(typically over a few meters). Due to the high viscosity of heavy oil, the displacement to producers located long distance away tends to make waterflooding inappropriate. Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage, Vapor Extraction and Toe-To-Heel Displacement Processes(TTHDP) belong to the SDOD processes. TTHDP can be applied as a non-thermal recovery technology, such as Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding or as a thermal technology such as Toe-To-Heel Steamflooding and Toe-To-Heel Air Injection. More than 17 laboratory tests of Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding(TTHW) showed that this process will provide good results for lighter heavy oil reservoirs(with viscosity less than 1200 mPas). Le procédé qui est connu est le «toe-to-heel air injection» ou THAI. Le principe de ce procédé, d'après ses inventeurs, est le suivant : Il s'agit de forer un puits vertical dont la section dans le réservoir imprégné d'huile lourde est proche de l'extrémité («toe») d'un puits horizontal. De l'air est injecté dans le puits vertical équipé d'un système d'allumage qui provoque une combustion de l'oxygène contenu dans l'air injecté au contact de l'huile. Un front de combustion se propage alors perpendiculairement au puits horizontal, donc vers l'autre extrémité de ce puits («heel»), d'où la dénomination «toe-to-heel». D'après les inventeurs du procédé, l'huile réchauffée au niveau du front de combustion s'écoule vers le bas en direction du puits horizontal sous l'action de la gravité et est récupérée vers la surface. Une interrogation subsiste concernant la percée probable de l'air injecté dans ce puits horizontal qui aurait pour résultat de provoquer un arrêt du front de combustion. Seul un essai pilote sur champ permettrait de valider ce procédé.
