Physicians at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center(UPMC) are evaluating the use of LBS-Neurons in the world's first clinical human neuron transplant into a patient's brain. This is the first effort to treat stroke patients with an intracerebral graft of cells. These neurons are provided by Layton Science, Inc., located in Atherton, Cal. Specifically, the Pitt research team expects the LBS-neurons to improve the function of neurons damaged after a stroke. Based on previous studies with an animal model of stroke, researchers think that grafted LBS-Neurons will either enhance the function of host neurons that survive a stroke but are impaired, or replace host neurons that have been destroyed by a stroke.  1, fiche 4, Anglais, - intracerebral%20graft

Les premiers résultats de la greffe intracérébrale de neurones fœtaux réalisés chez cinq patients atteints de la maladie de Huntington, viennent d'être publiés par des chercheurs de l'Inserm, associés à des médecins de l'Assistance publique - Hôpitaux de Paris [...] Trois ans après la greffe, trois patients présentent une nette amélioration de leurs capacités intellectuelles et motrices. Ils peuvent à nouveau réaliser des tâches qu'ils n'avaient pu faire depuis des années, comme rouler à bicyclette, nager, faire du bricolage ou jouer de la guitare. Shad Valley is a four week summer enrichment program. Students spend a month living in residence at one of our host university campuses across Canada. The program is offered to students currently completing grade 10, 11 or 12, Quebec secondaire IV, V or CEGEP I, or the International equivalent. With a focus that includes the sciences, technology and entrepreneurship, the program provides an academically stimulating, mind expanding adventure for top well-rounded students. Shad Valley consiste en un programme d'enrichissement d'été d'une durée de quatre semaines. Les élèves sont appelés à vivre en résidence pendant un mois à l'un de nos campus universitaires hôtes qui sont situés un peu partout au Canada. Le programme s'adresse aux élèves de secondaire IV ou V ou la 1re année de cégep au Québec (10e, 11e ou 12e année pour les élèves provenant de l'extérieur du Québec) ou des études équivalentes à l'étranger. Le programme, qui met l'accent sur les sciences, la technologie et l'entrepreneuriat, offre un cadre stimulant sur le plan scolaire et ouvre des horizons multiples aux élèves exceptionnels qui possèdent un bel équilibre. From June 23 to July 5, Concordia University was host to 75 young Aboriginal students who were attending the Engineering Exploration Science Summer Camp. The objective of the camp was to familiarize native students with the world of science and engineering.
