A mould in which the runners are kept at a temperature that is higher than the solidification temperature of the material.

Hot runner molds. Thermoplastic runners are reground and reused. A logical extension of the three-plate mold overcomes this and is called a hot runner mold. This mold has a hot runner plate, which is a block of steel heated with electric cartridges, thermostatically controlled. This keeps the plastic fluid. The material is received from the injection cylinder and is forced through the hot runner blocks into the cavities. It is a more difficult mold to build and operate than a three-plate mold, but produces parts less expensively on longer-running jobs.

A rotary dryer consists of a cylinder slightly inclined to the horizontal and rotated on suitable bearings. The rotary action of the cylinder serves to convey wet material from one end to the other while passing hot gases axially through the dryer shell. The contact of the solids and gases is further improved by means of flights arranged within the dryer shell so as to shower the wet material through the hot gas stream.

Ripple control generally refers to systems that are applied to electrical networks for demand side management purposes. They offer a means of communication from a central point to any point on the LV [Low-Voltage] network for action at end-users’ premises. Ripple control is mainly dedicated to mass applications but individual and specific applications can also be addressed. Applications are easily programmed by the operator in control consoles and receivers (Stand-alone receivers beside the meter or receiver integrated into electronic meters).

Ripple control is a well proven technology since many decades to control consumers in the whole grid for load optimization. This will be done switching on/off e.g. storage heatings, direct controlled heatings, etc. as well as tariff switching, monthly demand reset in electricity meters, and the control of other consumers like street lighting, etc. The components of a ripple control (RC) system are the load control centre, installed in the utility control level, which controls all connected substations. There are installed the RC transmitters with the couplings, which inject the RC signals into the grids, and in the grids there are RC receivers at the consumers site, which execute the transmitted commands.

The process of "blueing" to give a white appearance to the slivers or tops is frequently resorted to, and is usually affected on the backwasher. The latest innovation in this machine is the adoption of hot air drying in place of cylinder drying.

Thermoset molding. Thermosetting materials can be molded on reciprocating screw machines. The screw is designed differently and the barrel is usually heated with hot water. When thermosets are molded, the heating cylinder provides just enough heat to start exothermic cross-linking chemical reactions between the two monomers. The material must be transferred quickly into the mold and cannot be permitted to cool in the cylinder. If it does, the screw has to be removed and the thermosetting material chipped out.

Air Float Dryer.... principle of operation.... The pulp web is carried in a number of passes through a chamber in which heated air is used both for drying and for supporting the web. Capital and operating costs are similar to the steam cylinder system, but most pulp producers favor the air float dryer because it is easier to operate and maintain. In the earlier models of the air dryer, the pulp web is carried on mechanical conveyors and hot air is blown between the passes. The later designs incorporate true air impingement above and below the web; this principle provides much higher evaporation rates and eliminates the mechanical conveyor. Typically, the pulp web enters at the top, makes a number of horizontal passes turning around rollers at each end, and leaves at the bottom of the dryer at the opposite end.
