The process of continuously casting slab of under two inches in thickness.

Strip casting technology permits the production of hot strips, also referred to as hot rolled coiled steel, directly from the liquid crude steel. Casting and rolling are linked into one continuous operation. Strip casting technology is... the last technology in realizing direct casting.... direct casting has been realized in a step-wise fashion : the thickness of the sheet or strip cast has been reduced by three innovative technologies, conventional continuous casting, thin slab casting and strip casting technology... The introduction of thin slab casting(1989) let the liquid steel be cast in thinner slabs... Blooms and billets cannot be produced with a thin slab caster. Thin slab casting technology integrates casting and the finishing operations in the hot rolling section of a steel plant. The cast slabs are charged directly into a reheater and subsequently fed into the hot rolling mill. The reheating capacity for hot rolling the slabs is thus reduced.

There are several application techniques that can be used when the asphalt is installed by mopping. The modified bitumen sheet can be rolled, scrolled or flopped into the asphalt. Regardless of the application technique employed, the crucial factor is that the modified bitumen sheet make complete contact and embed in the hot asphalt. This can be accomplished by lightly brooming the modified bitumen sheet immediately after it has been installed. It is also good roofing practice to “scuff in” the side and end laps to assure that they are completely sealed.

Cette catégorie de feuilles est obtenue à partir de bitumes et de polymères modificateurs (caoutchoucs synthétiques ou matières plastiques) ainsi que de fillers et d'adhésifs aux propriétés particulières. Puisque le processus de fabrication consiste essentiellement à mélanger les éléments, la quantité d'agent modificateur peut être adaptée en fonction des caractéristiques désirées. Les deux agents modificateurs de bitume les plus utilisés sont le SBS (styrène-butadiène-styrène) et l'APP (polypropylène atactique). La teneur moyenne en SBS du composé varie entre 12 et 15 %. En général, une quantité supérieure de SBS entraîne une augmentation de la souplesse à basse température et de la résistance à la fatigue, une élévation du point de ramollissement et un élargissement de la plage des températures de service.

The ultimate in sizing treatments is achieved by tub sizing. Here the sheet is run through a shallow bath containing a solution of starch and other additives, and the excess solution is removed by passing the sheet through a light nip. Initial drying of the sized sheet is usually accomplished by hot air impingement to avoid disturbing the size film. In tub sizing, the objective is not only to improve surface properties, but also to impregnate the sheet sufficiently to improve such properties as ply bond, burst, stiffness and tensile strength. Tub sizing is sometimes carried out on-machine, but better results are obtained with an off-machine operation.

Collage en bassin. La dernière opération de collage peut se faire en bassin. Le feuille passe dans un bain peu profond contenant une solution d'amidon et d'autres adjuvants; l'excès de colle est enlevé par passage dans une pince assez lâche. On commence à sécher la feuille par soufflage d'air chaud pour ne pas altérer le film de colle. Ce type de collage peut se faire sur machine, mais les meilleurs résultats sont obtenus hors machine. On réserve ce traitement pour les papiers fins, tels les papiers chiffon.

Forced Air Wood Furnaces. Central wood-burning furnaces are controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the living area. Temperature and fan controls are the same as those found on oil and gas furnaces. Unlike room heaters, which produce a steady heat output by periodic manual adjustments of the draft control, most wood furnaces operate in cycles. A cycle starts with the thermostat sensing that heat is needed in the room where it is located. It signals the furnace control system which opens the combustion air damper and a hot fire develops. When the air inside the furnace's sheet metal casing gets hot, a preset fan control starts the circulating blower and the warm air is moved through the ducts to all areas of the house.
