A rotary dryer consists of a cylinder slightly inclined to the horizontal and rotated on suitable bearings. The rotary action of the cylinder serves to convey wet material from one end to the other while passing hot gases axially through the dryer shell. A cooling tower basically consists of an air circuit and a water circuit leading to a heat exchange vessel in which the air and water are brought into contact. By a stack effect, i. e. by natural draft, the cooling tower shell provides air circulation.
