Environment Control and Life Support System(ECLSS) : The orbiter's Environmental Control and Life-Support System purifies the cabin air, adds fresh oxygen, keeps the pressure at sea level, heats and cools the air, and provides drinking and wash water. The system also includes lavatory facilities. The cabin is pressurized to sea level(14. 7 psi) with 21 percent oxygen and 79 percent nitrogen, comparable to Earth's atmosphere. The air is circulated through lithium hydroxide/charcoal canisters which remove carbon dioxide. The canisters are changed on a regular basis. Excess heat from the cabin and flight-deck electronics is collected by a circulating coolant water system and transferred to radiator panels on the payload bay doors where it is dissipated. The fuel cells produce about seven pounds of water each hour. It is stored in tanks, and excess water is dumped overboard. The lavatory unit collects and processes body waste, and also collects wash water from the personal hygiene station. The lavatory unit, located in the middeck area, operates much like those on commercial airlines but is designed for a weightless space environment.

Following the uproar that greeted proposals in the sixties and seventies to build a freeway along the left bank of the Seine, Paris found its solution in going underground. Paris now has built or is building over 100 kilometers of high speed limited access underground roads that speed traffic under Paris along routes traffic could never follow above ground.

... speed limits will be 45 miles per hour... as opoosed to the 55-and 65-mile-per-hour limits on other parts of the interstate highway system. Also, traffic will go in only one direction in each tube, reducing the risk of head-on collisions. And a system of height detectors and cameras will help highway operators to spot trucks that are too large or carrying hazardous materials before they reach the tunnels. No hazardous materials will be allowed in the subterranean roads.

There is... an international standard called "High Sierra" format, or ISO 9660, for the storage of plain data on CD-ROMs, but there are unfortunately two standards for the compressed data. One standard is called CD-I(Compact Disk-Interactive) and is supported by Philips and Sony, whereas the other standard is called DVI(Digital Video Interactive) and is supported by Intel and IBM. Both standards are similar in allowing slightly more than one hour of video on a CD-ROM, but they are otherwise quite different. CD-I is designed as a stand-alone system that is intended to be sold as a consumer electronics appliance for the home. A CD-I machine is self-contained with its own computer hidden inside. Users do not see the computer, however, but only the nice video images on their television screens, so CD-I may appeal to the "compuphobic" part of the population. CD-I does come in a computer-oriented format also, called CD-XA(Extended Architecture).

Il est possible de stocker diverses séquences parlées dans un même fichier et de sélectionner interactivement les données pertinentes (substitution d'une partie de phrase à une autre, par exemple).
