The House of Commons is the custodian of an important collection of art and artifacts reflecting Canada's social and political history. Many of these works are displayed throughout Parliament, including its committee rooms. This painting, Ghosts of Vimy Ridge, is currently on loan to the new Canadian War Museum, but its permanent home is the Centre Block's historic Railway Committee Room. A brief overview of the evolution of parliamentary committees dealing with disability issues from their beginning to the present. The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, 1997-2002, replaced The Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons, 1989-1997. The Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons combined the mandates of two committees -- the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Standing Committee on the Status of Disabled Persons. In 1995 the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons changed to the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Persons with Disabilities. De 1996-2002, Comité permanent du développement des ressources humaines et de la condition des personnes handicapées, remplace le Comité permanent des droits de la personne et de la condition des personnes handicapées 1989-1996, qui remplissait les mandats du Comité permanent des droits de la personne et du Comité permanent de la condition des personnes handicapées. The Centre Block is only one of the magnificient Gothic Revival buildings gracing Parliament Hill, but it is probably the one most quickly recognized by Canadians coast to coast. Home to the Senate, the House of Commons and the Library of Parliament, the Centre Block is an integral part of our heritage and a symbol of Canada’s highly regarded parliamentary system.
