A tissue culture medium containing hypoxanthine, aminopterin, and thymidine, used in somatic cell fusion experiments. Milieu sélectif contenant de l'hypoxanthine, de l'aminoptérine et de la thymidine. La synthèse de l'ADN à partir des sucres et des acides aminés est bloquée par l'aminoptérine. Une autre voie de biosynthèse possible utilise des nucléotides préformés (les précurseurs de l'ADN) et deux enzymes : la thymidine-kinase (TK) et l'hypoxanthine guanine phosphoriboxyl transférase (HGPRT).
