A territory that entered the Canadian Confederation in 1898 as the "Yukon Territory", out of the District of Yukon created in 1895 in the Northwest Territories. Until 1999, the Yukon used to stand eleventh in the order of precedence established according to the year of entry into Confederation of the ten provinces, then of the territories, listed, by convention, before the Northwest Territories even if the latter entered Confederation 28 years before. It now stands twelfth, after the Northwest Territories and before Nunavut. On March 27, 2002, the name was changed to "Yukon" even if the status of territory remains.

The name of a territory and its form, spelling and abbreviation are to be decided by the provincial toponymy authority, with the agreement of the Government of Canada. One uses "Yukon" (or "territory of Yukon") for the geographical entity, "Yukon" for the provincial administration or as the short form, and "Yk." as the abbreviation to be officially recognized by the toponymic authority, a change from the previous "Y.T.".

Approved by ISO, the Canada Post two-character symbol is YT (or CA-YT), [to be changed to YK (or CA-YK) if a request to that extent is made and accepted]. This symbol is the same in all languages and must be used only in postal addresses and statistical charts where the identification of provinces and territories is restricted to two characters. A two-character territorial symbol must not be used instead of the abbreviation in a text or on a geographical map, a poster or a road sign.

The use of the definite article in English before "Yukon" is dependent upon how it is used in the context. If "Yukon" modifies another term, then the article is omitted. e. g. Yukon Indians comprise 25% of the population of the territory. If "Yukon" takes the inflected genitive('s), then the use of the article is optional. e. g.(the) Yukon's wildlife resources;(the) Yukon's native people. In every other case, the use of the definite article would be in keeping with common usage as it signals the absence of a generic geographic feature. Hence we say "the Mediterranean"(implied : Sea), "the Philippines"(implied :"Islands"). Currently, there is some debate as to the appropriateness of the definite article, all the more since "the Yukon"(implied :"territory") is seeking political parity with the other established "provinces"(statement of 1991). [Usage can thus tend to drop the article as is the case before the name of a province. ]

Where a party fails to perform one of his obligations, that may be called actual breach; where he evinces an intention not to perform, that may be called anticipatory breach. Actual breach may take one of three forms. Non-performance is one form of breach. Suppose A, a shipowner, charters his ship to B, undertaking to have the ship at Liverpool for loading by a certain date. If A(perhaps because he has received a more profitable offer from C in Southampton) never takes his ship to Liverpool, that is a breach of contract by non-performance. Another form of actual breach is defective performance. If A attempts to get his ship to Liverpool, but arrives late, that is a breach of contract by defective performance. A third form of actual breach is the non-truth of a statement which is a term of the contract. If it is written into the contract that the ship is suitable for carrying motor-cars, and in fact it is not, that is a breach of contract.

Extracts from the Federal Heritage Buildings Policy.(Parks Canada). Designation of Federal Heritage Buildings. All federal buildings 40 years old or older for which alteration, demolition, or disposal are planned must be identified and referred to the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office(FHBRO) for evaluation, in order to determine if the buildings have heritage value. Also to be evaluated are buildings 40 years old or older whose acquisition is being contemplated. The Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office will evaluate the identified buildings to determine if they merit heritage designation. Parks Canada will prepare research that addresses historical, architectural and environmental criteria, as well as any other relevant information, as a basis for this evaluation. A building evaluated as a heritage building will be recommended for designation as a "classified" or as a "recognized" federal heritage building. A classified building is the higher of these two designations. The Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office will convey the recommended designation(classified or recognized) to the custodial department. The recommendation will be accompanied by a statement of heritage character. A federal building which has been designated under this policy will be entered in the Register of Federal Heritage Buildings, along with a statement of its heritage character.
