Four source assemblies are typically installed in initial load of the reactor core : two primary source assemblies and two secondary source assemblies. Each primary source assembly contains one primary source rod and a number of burnable absorber rods. Each secondary source assembly contains a symmetrical grouping of secondary source rodlets... The primary source rod, containing a radioactive material, spontaneously emits neutrons during initial core loading, reactor startup, and initial operation of the first core. After the primary source rod decays beyond the desired neutron flux level, neutrons are then supplied by the secondary source rod. The secondary source rod contains a stable material, which is activated during reactor operation. The activation results in the subsequent release of neutrons.

Traditionally sintering(or growth of bonds) has first of all been considered as a slow process : bond growth primarily due to the transport of water molecules through the vapour phase... But under loading conditions initial sintering can happen within seconds. Accordingly, Gubler... designed an experiment to study the strength of bonds between ice grains after short contact times. The results support the idea that fast sintering gives some initial strength.

A prop consisting of two telescoping steel cylinders which are extended by hydraulic pressure which may be provided by a hand-operated pump built into the prop. The prop holds about half a gallon of mineral oil and is fitted with a yield valve which relieves the pressure when the load exceeds that for which the prop is set. An hydraulic prop enables quicker setting, uniform initial loading and it can be withdrawn from a remote, safe position. The year 1947 saw the first hydraulic prop in a British coal mine-today there are more than one million in use.

This is an export certificate issued in Eastern Canada for corn loaded to a "laker. "The request for this type of certification originates with the shipper prior to shipment and includes a statement of agreement between the shipper and purchaser indicating further inspection is not required. A Western Certificate is issued to indicate quality at initial loading. Subsequent handling increases breakage and may lower the grade; however, this becomes the responsibility of the buyer rather than the seller.

Il s'agit d'un certificat d'exportation délivré dans l'Est canadien pour le maïs chargé sur un «cargo hors mer». La demande pour ce genre de certification provient de l'expéditeur, avant l'expédition, et renferme un protocole d'accord entre l'expéditeur et l'acheteur stipulant qu'il n'est pas nécessaire d'effectuer une autre inspection. Un certificat de l'Ouest est délivré comme indice de la qualité au moment du chargement initial. Une manutention ultérieure augmente la cassure et peut faire baisser le grade; toutefois, c'est l'acheteur plutôt que le vendeur qui en devient responsable.
