As used herein, the term "control law" can refer to one or more mathematical formulae used by a control system to command, manage, direct, or regulate the behavior of another device, such as a robot. Control laws can be used singularly or [in] combination to produce a control signal based on another signal(e. g., positive feedback, negative feedback, etc.) and one or more control variables. The output of the control law is a signal that is passed to the robot to cause it to move based on the difference between desired values and actual values(e. g., sensor data). For example, a PID [proportional-integral-derivative] controller combines three control laws where one control variable scales the present value of the error, another control variable scales the integral of the error, and a third control variable scales the derivative of the error. These scaled terms can then be fed back to the system to change the signal.

The term barrier is usually reserved for the cases where the geomembrane is used inside an earth mass. Geomembrane is a generic term which has been proposed to replace many terms such as: synthetic membranes, polymeric membranes, plastic liners, flexible membrane liners, impermeable membranes and impervious sheets. These terms are not appropriate because: (i) synthetic, polymeric and plastic are too restrictive; (ii) geomembranes are not always used as liners; (iii) flexible membrane is redundant; and (iv) no material is absolutely impermeable or impervious. In the Meteorological Products Extraction Facility(MPEF) meteorological products are operationally extracted from METEOSAT image data for use in forecasting and research work. The extraction is performed in an automatic processing scheme and includes an automatic quality control step as an integral part of the processing. CANOPUS consists of a network of automatic data collection stations in West-Central Canada, transmitting data by satellite telemetry to a central data analysis centre in Ottawa, by means of which the powerful effects of solar activity on the ionosphere and upper atmosphere can be observed with minimum delay and studied in a systematic manner. CANOPUS was designed as an integral part of the Global Geospace Science Mission(GGS) organized by NASA as part of the International Solar-Terrestrial Physics Program(ISTP). CANOPUS was accepted by NASA as a component of GGS program on an equal footing with comprehensive sets of intruments on three on spacecraft(GEOTAIL, WIND and POLAR). The ISTP also includes the ESA CLUSTER satellites, SOHO and the Russian INTERBALL satellites... The system name, CANOPUS, was originally an acronym based on the role of the project as a component experiment of the NASA OPEN program. OPEN has now been renamed GGS and integrated into the International Solar Terrestrial Physics program which involves NASA, ESA and ISAS(the Japanese Space Agency). Since the project has become widely known as CANOPUS the name has been retained to avoid any possible confusion.
