A flintlock has three positions for the hammer: uncocked, half-cocked and fully cocked. In the fully cocked position the gun is ready to fire. If the trigger moves the sear just a bit, it releases the tumbler. In the half-cocked position you can load the gun. The trigger is locked in the half-cocked position and cannot release the tumbler ... After you fire the gun, it is in the uncocked position.

The soldier would place his revolver in the half cocked position. This is a special loading position built into the revolver. The soldier pulls the hammer back halfway, until it reaches a catch or stop... the trigger is locked into a safety position and cannot be pulled to fire the gun. To release this half cocked position the hammer must be pulled back further to full cock.

With as many as fifty line crew helpers needed on a crew, these juggies are the muscle on the team. Line crew helpers are often called recorder helpers because much of their work involves laying the electronic equipment and wires that record sounds coming from underground.

Helpers are inexperienced people in training positions on seismic crews. After they gain skills and experience, helpers may move to other positions on a crew. Recording helpers, often called jug hustlers, assist seismic observers. In preparation for recording activities, observers may require as many as twenty or more helpers to haul cables, geophones and other recording equipment, and place and connect recording equipment.

A Line Crew/Recorder Helper/is responsible for the laying out and picking up of seismic recording equipment for the purposes of both 2D and 3D land seismic data acquisition. In preparation for recording activities, there may be as many as fifty or more helpers to lay out cables and plant geophones. The position involves working twelve to fourteen hours per day, walking six to 20 km on uneven terrain, carrying cables and geophones for pick-up or layout(up to 90lbs) ensuring quality control on lay-out and pick-up, participating actively in all company safety initiatives, following all helicopter safety protocol, and loading and unloading of seismic equipment from seismic line vehicles or helibags.

The aircraft classification number is calculated with respect to the center of gravity(CG) position which yields the critical loading on the critical gear. Normally the aftmost CG position appropriate to the maximum gross apron(ramp) mass is used to calculate the ACN. In exceptional cases the forwardmost CG position may result in the nose gear loading being more critical.

OBS

ACNs are expressed on a scale from approximately 5 (least demanding aircraft) to 110 (most demanding aircraft). ACNs are applicable only to aircraft having an apron (ramp) mass equal to or greater than 12 600 lb. ACNs have been assigned to present-day aircraft at their maximum and minimum operating masses/weights and at a specific tire pressure. The ACN should not exceed the pavement classification number (PCN) for unrestricted aircraft operations. The ICAO ACN system is the internationally approved and accepted method for ranking aircraft in terms of their pavement-strength requirements.

There is an extremely important design consideration when constructing and installing pull-outs in a cabinet behind doors. The European hinge, that is often used, has the ability to open in less than the space it requires for door overlap. In effect, the door mounted with these hinges opens in a space less than 5/8" which puts the edge of the door slightly inside the face frame opening. While this feature is extremely beneficial, particularly when two doors are close together, it means that a pull-out will rub or hit the door. To provent this, 1" by 2" cleats are installed on the interior of the carcass, and the drawer glides are mounted to the cleats.

In an anti-aircraft turret for armoured units, especially for armoured vehicles, the turret constitutes an independent unit and is equipped with a launching ramp, e. g. for rockets. The launching ramp is designed as an integral part of the turret and is rotatable in the vertical direction from a launching position, via a neutral transport position to a loading position where the ramp projects down through a loading hatch in the unit down into the turret. The ramp is equipped with an armoured protective mantle, which is rotatable with the ramp and which covers the ramp on the top and on the sides.

Johansson's ro/ro vessels differ markedly in design from the now-traditional Paralla design. Rather than use a large quarter ramp, the owner prefers twin axial ramps, each slewable, one to port and the other to starboard. Normally, the twin stern ramps are used simultaneously in the straight aft position for maximum speed of loading. However, should it not be possible to work cargo stern to, then each ramp will slew 35° off the centre line enabling the ship to still load and unload when berthed either side to a marginal quay.

The prop holds about half a gallon of mineral oil and is fitted with a yield valve which relieves the pressure when the load exceeds that for which the prop is set. A longwall cutter-loader of the plough type, with two cutting blades, one at each end, operated by a hydraulic cylinder which can give a powerful thrust(about 42 tons) to the blades and cause them to bite into the coal. While this thrust is being exerted, the machine is anchored by means of a vertical jack which engages the roof and floor. The jack is built on sliding bars and the machine is moved by sliding the jack along the bars to the next position for anchoring the machine. La firme Mavor et Coulson construit une machine appelée Samson stripper qui abat le charbon par arrachement d'un copeau épais (environ 60 cm) chargé directement dans le convoyeur de taille. La machine est automotrice. Elle comprend un moteur qui entraîne une pompe à huile agissant sur une unité de propulsion.
