Un nouveau centre de recherche et de formation de l'Université des Nations Unies pour l'innovation, la technologie et le développement est né officiellement le 1er janvier 2006. Ce nouveau centre, dont le nom est UNU-MERIT (Centre de Recherche Economique et Sociale et de Formation de Maastricht pour l'Innovation et la Technologie) est le résultat d'un accord de coopération entre l'UNU et l'Université de Maastricht.
