The ULC - Unpressurized Logistics Container ... is an external equipment serving as means of transportation and cargo storage for the ISS [International Space Station]. It will have a total operation life of 10 years with intervals of no more than five years in orbit. The unpressurized cargo to be transported on the ULC will use an interface unit called CHIA [Cargo Handling Interface Assembly] whose function is to provide electrical and mechanical interfaces between the cargo and the ULC. The CHIA is an external support equipment which provides interfaces between the cargo items and the ULC [Unpressurized Logistic Carrier] in orbit, during the assembly and maintenance operations of the ISS [International Space Station]. Its basic design will interface plates or boxes where cargo items can be accommodated. The CHIAs will provide heating as well as a data bus to verify that the cargo items are in operational conditions and within their safety margins. Brazil will supply a series of CHIAs in quantities and shapes to be defined. HTV [H-II Transfer Vehicle] can carry 6 to 7 tons of supplies loaded on its logistics carrier. The pressurized logistic carrier aboard HTV will be used to transport items such as consumables(food and clothes for astronauts) and experiment devices or specimens to be installed in ISS [International Space Station]. Exposed experiment equipment for use in the vacuum environment is transported in an unpressurized logistics carrier aboard HTV.
