Rubanisation is a re-conceptualisation of human settlements in which the city and the countryside are considered as one space, not two as it is now - city and countryside are regarded as separate realms. Rubanisation stems from the belief that the continued consideration of the rural and the urban as two distinct realms is unsustainable in terms of social justice, cultural justice and environmental justice. This mode of thinking calls for a new spatial geometry of integrated development that offers real viable choices for living, one that is supported by environmentally sustainable technology and ethical lifestyle.

Professor Tay [Kheng Soon] introduced his concept of "rubanization"(derived from rural-urbanization) and "Ruban Clusters, "which consist in their basic form of an urban core that is just one kilometer in diameter(to promote pedestrianization over auto-based transportation) with two main arterial roads running through the urban center at 90 degrees for long-distance transport to and fro the cluster.

EPO, which enhances endurance by boosting the production of oxygen-rich red blood cells in the body, is believed widely used by athletes in endurance sports such as long-distance running, swimming and cycling, and was at the center of a scandal at the Tour de France two years ago [1998].

Contrôle antidopage. [L'EPO comme drogue augmentant l'endurance]. Contrôle anti-doping à Atlanta 96. [...] L'érithropoiétine, ou EPO, est une autre hormone très populaire. Elle a remplacé la technique de dopage par ajout de sang. Auparavant, l'athlète conservait une dose de son propre sang qu'il se réinjectait juste avant la compétition [doping sanguin], l'ajout de globules rouges ayant pour effet d'oxygéner le sang et d'augmenter sa résistance. Maintenant, ce n'est plus nécessaire : L'EPO, également présente dans le corps à l'état naturel, stimule la production de globules rouges et est à peu près indétectable (d'ailleurs, à Atlanta, l'équipement disponible ne permettra pas de détecter l'IGF-1 (une hormone peptide) et l'EPO).

Il a été possible de détecter l'EPO aux Championnats du monde d'athlétisme de 2001, à Edmonton (Alberta, Canada).

Most competitive runners do not strike the ground heel first. Sprinting is performed on the toes, unlike middle-distance running, where you perform a rolling type motion, as flat running can be bad for your knee joints. In long-distance running, the footstrike should be flat, though some elite long-distance runners will retain their forefoot strike acquired from years of competing in track-and-field.

A short fast race in which the competitors run a distance of 400 metres or less.

The track events are all measured in meters and consist of the following : the sprints(100m, 200m, 400m), the middle-distance running(800m and 1500m), long-distance running(5000m and 10, 000m), hurdling(100m for women, 110m for men and 400m for both), relay racing(4x100m and 4x400m) and finally the men's 3000m steeplechase.

The Camel women were solid in sprint events. In the 400 meter sprint, junior Lori Kessel (Storrs, CT) led a trio of fine Camel performances and was an automatic qualifier for the All-new England championship with a third place finish of :58.55.

Senior Tonia Burgard swept the sprint events at the USD Graphic Edge-Alumni Open Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. Burgard won the 60-meter dash in 7.87 seconds, and the 200-meter dash in 25.80 seconds.
