Une polysulfone domine largement les autres : [...] d'où le nom de polyéthers sulfones quelquefois donné à ces composés. La préparation la plus courante consiste à polycondenser le bisphénolate de sodium avec la p,p'-dichlorodiphénylsulfone. Les polysulfones sont des thermoplastiques possédant de très bonnes propriétés mécaniques (ténacité, rigidité, tenue au fluage), encore améliorées par additions de charges (fibres de verre ou de carbone), et peuvent être employées en continu entre -70 et 180 °C. Leurs résistances au choc, au feu, leurs propriétés électriques sont très bonnes. Elles ont une bonne résistance chimique, mais se dissolvent dans un certain nombre de solvants polaires.
