The prospecting rover scans for desired resources over the lunar surface where it directs itself to potential excavation sites, and the presence of ice is confirmed by a small sample extraction and analysis. Successful prospect location coordinates are then sent to the excavator rover. Subsequent to the receipt of the location data, the excavating rover navigates to the candidate site where it extracts and collects the regolith and lunar ice. It then hands off this mixture to the transportation rover in a collectible form.

This paper presents a cooperative, multi-robot solution for searching, excavating, and transporting mineral resources on the Moon.... Our results demonstrate the potential of using autonomous robots for autonomous in-situ resource utilization(ISRU) on the Moon.... To fulfill the mission requirements, a heterogeneous team of up to six rovers could be selected from three types of rovers : scout, hauler, and excavator... Each rover had unique capabilities to assist in the lunar ISRU mission task. The scout rover was equipped with a sensor package to detect volatile resources of different types underground. The excavator rover included a 4 degrees of freedom robotic arm with a bucket end-effector to collect the resources. The hauler rover included a truck bed to transport the resources to the processing plant.

A free gyro that is not slaved to any Earth reference (as the vertical and directional gyros and the gyrocompass are) will tend to maintain a fixed direction in inertial space, that is, with respect to fixed stars. Then as the Earth rotates, the angle between the axis of such a gyro and an arbitrary line on the Earth will change, and to an Earth-fixed observer the gyro will appear to precess.

L'Horizon artificiel. Il mesure simultanément une assiette et une inclinaison. L'utilisation d'un gyroscope asservi à la verticale lui permet de mesurer les angles compris entre l'axe du gyroscope et les axes liés à l'avion. On obtient ainsi les sens en degrés d'inclinaison ainsi que la valeur de l'angle d'attitude à cabrer ou à piquer.
