A tilt table test is used to evaluate the cause of unexplained fainting(syncope).... For a tilt table test, you begin by lying flat on a table. Straps are put around your body to hold you in place. After about 15 minutes of lying flat, the table is quickly tilted to raise your body to a head-up position-simulating a change in position from lying down to standing up. The table will then remain upright for up to 45 minutes, while your heart rate and blood pressure are monitored. This allows doctors to evaluate your body's cardiovascular response to the change in position.

An obstetrical forceps having a sliding lock and little pelvic curve.

Kielland's forceps [were] originally designed to deliver the fetal head at or above the pelvic brim, lying in the transverse axis of the pelvis and rotating it when it had reached the pelvic cavity. The forceps is used today for rotation and extraction of the head which is arrested in the deep transverse or occipito-posterior position. The blades have very little pelvic curve and are virtually an axis traction forceps. A large episiotomy is needed. The shallowness of the curve allows safe rotation in the vagina. Downward traction encourages rotation of the head. The claw lock allows the blades to slide on each other and correct or encourage synclitism of the fetal head as required. The range of movement allowed by the lock makes it possible to apply lethal compression to the fetal head if the instrument is used improperly

If the fetus’s head needs to be rotated, there is now a tendency to use manual rotation, rotation with a vacuum extractor, or caesarean section in preference to Kielland’s rotational forceps. This change in practice arose in the 1980s after high rates of neonatal morbidity and mortality were associated with Kielland’s forceps ... Kielland’s forceps are only used for select cases and by experienced obstetricians.

In medical eponyms, the possessive form, such as "Kielland’s forceps" (Christian Kielland or Kjelland, Norwegian obstetrician) often disappears over the years. For that reason, the written forms "Kjelland forceps" and "Kielland forceps"are also found.

equilibrium : state of balance. When a body or a system is in equilibrium, there is no net tendency to change. In mechanics, equilibrium has to do with the forces acting on a body.... However, a state of equilibrium does not mean that no forces act on the body, but only that the forces are balanced.... The stability of a body is a measure of its ability to return to a position of equilibrium after being disturbed. It depends on the shape of the body and the location of its center of gravity... A body with a large flat base and a low center of gravity will be very stable, returning quickly to its position of equilibrium after being tipped. There's an old-fashioned position called "Walcher's Position" that was supposed to widen the pelvic inlet and allow borderline CPD [cephalopelvic] babies to engage. The idea was to get the mom lying on her back with her hips brought forward to the edge and her legs supported but almost dangling. A sound curling delivery requires accomplishment in four technical areas. Alignment, Timing, Balance, and Release. The delivery must be straight, the movements properly coordinated, the body in balance, and the release controlled and consistent. As each skill improves, so does accuracy. In addition to the technical aspects, a sound curling delivery requires a delicate "feel" for weight, and sound mental skills.

The technical term is "delivery": it bears all the efficiency needed to position a rock on the intended target. The word "shot" is a more common term while "throw" and "stroke" express more force and vigour, or the action of a rock against another, than the conjugated strength and precision needed to place a rock on the targeted spot.
