In December 1995, the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month in Canada following a motion introduced by [the Honourable Jean] Augustine. The House of Commons carried the motion unanimously. In February 2008, Senator Donald Oliver, the first Black man appointed to the Senate, introduced the motion to recognize contributions of Black Canadians and February as Black History Month. It received unanimous approval and was adopted on March 4, 2008. En décembre 1995, la Chambre des communes a reconnu officiellement le mois de février comme étant le Mois de l'histoire des Noirs au Canada à la suite d'une motion initiée par [l'honorable Jean] Augustine. La Chambre des communes a adopté la motion à l'unanimité. En février 2008, le sénateur Donald Oliver, le premier homme noir nommé au Sénat, a présenté la motion visant à reconnaître les contributions des Canadiens noirs et à faire de février le Mois de l'histoire des Noirs. Elle a reçu l'approbation unanime et a été adoptée le 4 mars 2008. Pit sawing operations have a long and vibrant history. Well before circular saws were used to saw logs lengthwise, they were processed by placing them over a "pit"-hence the reference to "pit saw. "The saw operates vertically up and down. Operated by two men, a man on top, known as the "Top Dog", guided the saw as it was pulled down in a cutting motion by the "Underdog. "The "Top dog" recovered the saw and the "Underdog" then pulled it down in a cutting motion again. Needless to say the "Underdog" copped a fair bit of sawdust. The top of the saw has a fixed "tiller handle" so the topdog can guide it and cut a straight line. The lower part of the saw has a "block" which is easily detachable with a wedge.
