A plaza for all seasons. People who live in, work in or visit Hull, Quebec, have a beautiful new public space to enjoy, thanks to a PWGSC [Public Works and Government Services Canada]-managed restoration and redesign project. The newly reopened plaza at Parc du Portage is popular among employees at lunchtime, but is also drawing strollers in the evening and bringing new life into the downtown area. The plaza is located between Phases I and II of the Government of Canada Place du Portage office complex and the provincial/municipal Maison du Citoyen building. The plaza is a few minutes’ walk from the Museum of Civilization, one of the national capital' s major visitor attractions. An underground parking garage owned by the Government of Canada is situated beneath the plaza. The restoration and redesign project had two main components--repair of the waterproof membrane of the garage roof, which had been leaking, and restoration of the plaza. Improvements to the plaza included the addition of more fountains in the pool, and the construction of a low wall around the pool providing places to sit. At night, innovative new lighting casts a shimmering reflection onto the nearby building walls. Le Programme de renforcement du secteur langagier au Canada est un nouveau programme de Travaux publics et Services gouvernementaux Canada. Ce programme donne suite aux engagements pris par le gouvernement fédéral dans la Feuille de route pour la dualité linguistique canadienne 2008-2013 : agir pour l'avenir. Les objectifs du programme sont d'appuyer la formation d'une main-d'œuvre qualifiée et de renforcer la capacité du secteur langagier au Canada. L'expression «secteur langagier au Canada» renvoie à la combinaison de l'industrie de la langue au Canada et de l'ensemble des organismes sans but lucratif et des établissements d'enseignement postsecondaire à l'appui de l'industrie. From 2001 to 2008, the Port Hope and Port Granby projects were managed by the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management Office(LLRWMO). In 2009, Natural Resources Canada, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and Public Works and Government Services Canada formed the Port Hope Area Initiative Management Office to carry the projects through to completion. Beginning in 2011, construction of long-term waste management facilities will begin in Port Hope and Port Granby(eastern Clarington) to safely manage the waste for hundreds of years.
