La carte métallogénique se distingue de la [carte des gîtes minéraux] par la volonté de mettre en évidence des relations entre les concentrations minérales et les faits géologiques de divers ordres. [...] il eût peut-être été préférable de dire «minéralogique». Mais cette distinction étymologique [...] n'est pas très grave puisque le grec "metallon" impliquait à l'origine l'idée de «quête vers», c'est-à-dire de prospection, et non celle de métal au sens chimique.
