Land mines are a fundamental impediment to post-conflict reconstruction and development. Yet, mine action programs which focus narrowly on eliminating or limiting the devastating impacts of these weapons, risk over looking the complex peace building and developmental needs of countries infected by land mines. To be effective, mine action programs require a greater understanding of the socio-economic impacts of land mines as well as a longer-term and coordinated strategy among key actors working in this field. The format of what would become the Shearwater International Air Show or SIAS began to crystallize in 1981. Obviously, it could not compete with bigger shows playing to larger population centres. So, if the biggest was not possible, SIAS aimed to be the best. The show's search for excellence was rewarded by many successes; air displays equaling any in the country and over 75 different static aircraft from as many as seven countries. In addition, over 80 high-quality ground exhibits were displayed, including such as an Iraqi Scud missile and the weapon which brought it down, the US Army's Patriot System. Efforts to raise the Nova Scotia International Air Show(NSIAS) from the ashes were unsuccessful in 1996, but a few dedicated believers took on the task to try again for 1997 and were more than rewarded for their efforts. NSIAS 97 was a co-production of the three levels of government, the private sector and the military in the Atlantic Region. A lot of hard work, negotiations and good will produced a first class show that had all the trade marks of past SIAS events and then some. With a superb two-day attendance and an overall economic impact exceeding 14 million dollars, Shearwater and Nova Scotia were clearly on the air show map.

Le risque lié à la diffusion de l'hélium est aussi atténué : en cas de perte d'hélium, on fait sortir de l'air afin de maintenir l'équilibre aérostatique. Lors de la phase de descente, un treuil permet de rapprocher les MAP des pôles inférieur et supérieur pour diminuer le volume de l'enveloppe et ainsi maintenir une surpression constante. Enfin, pour tenir la basse altitude lors de la récupération, de l'air est injecté afin d'augmenter la masse.

Filmed during the 1973 meet in Rättvik, this film follows young and old of all sizes and levels of ability as they wind their ways, with map and compass in hand, along prescribed routes through the countryside. As well, it reports on the daily events of the competition and gives a good picture of its general organization. A motivational film What Makes Them Run? is particularly suited for showing by fitness groups, recreational services and high schools.

The Northrop Grumman MALD is a slender UAV with pop-out wings, and is powered by a 10. 2 centimeter(4 inch) diameter Sundstrand TJ-50 turbojet.... MALD's autopilot will include a commercial GPS receiver. The decoy will incorporate a programmable active radar enhancement payload designed by Northrop Grumman that can be programmed to allow it to impersonate different aircraft, from stealth fighter to B-52s.... Three MALDs can be carried on a stores pylon, compared with one ITALD or comparable decoy drone. The MALDs can be programmed to fly formations simulating those of combat aircraft, such as the classic lead and wingman arrangement. The course of a MALD can be programmed by displaying a digital map on a computer and then using a mouse to click on the appropriate map "waypoints", and the "wingman" can then be programmed to follow the same course with an offset. The MALD's computer will be able to follow a large number of waypoints over a 460 kilometer(286 mile) course. It will also be sophisticated enough to simulate maneuvers typical of attack aircraft.
