In many cartographic establishments the whole of the work of the plotting and drawing stages of constructing a map projection can be done by coordinatograph... This instrument creates the two orthogonal axes of rectangular coordinates by means of one fixed steel beam and a travelling steel gantry which has a moving plotting head attached to it. Linear displacements of the gantry and the plotting head may be transferred to scales by means of lead-screws or a rack-and-pinion movement. With the aid of verniers or micrometers attached to each movement it is possible to read or plot coordinates to a least count of 0. 1 mm [millimeter] on the majority of instruments.

Overview of resampling methods. From the perspective of space, a satellite camera or sensor takes images that provide unique Earth information at scales ranging from very small to very large. To better understand an image, its shape, scale and perspective often are changed by rectification, orthorectification or map projection to relate it to real world coordinates. During that process, however, gaps between pixels may form, requiring that images be resampled to fill in those missing pixels. There are basically 3 methods of resampling : nearest neighbor, bilinear interpolation and cubic convolution.

Edge Matching [is an] important part of the creation of a digital map or GIS database. One digital map may encompass many paper maps, but when the paper maps are laid edge-to-edge, features running across boundaries of the map sheets are not always properly aligned. These misalignments occur for many reasons including survey error, cartographic generalization, and problems of map projection and compilation. Edge matching is a term applied to a variety of techniques employed to resolve these inconsistencies, including warping and rubber sheeting.

"Precision Map Image" products have even greater positional accuracy than "Map Image" products. Ground Control Points(GCPs) as well as a map projection are used to spatially align the image. To order a "Precision Map Image" product, ground control points from a map or provided through Global Positional Satellite(GPS) technology are required. To further enhance the positional accuracy of the image, Digital Elevation Models(DEMs) can be used to correct terrain distortions. A DEM at sufficient detail will be needed to provide ortho-correction services.

A conformal map projection of the cylindrical type. The equator is represented by a straight line true to scale; the geographic meridians are represented by parallel straight lines perpendicular to the line representing the equator; they are spaced according to their distance apart at the equator. The geographic parallels are represented by a second system of straight lines perpendicular to the family of lines representing the meridians.... Conformality is achieved by mathematical analysis, the spacing of the parallels being increased with increasing distance from the equator to conform with the expending scale along the parallels resulting from the meridians being represented by parallel lines.

A particular case of the Bonne map projection, in which the standard parallel is at the pole, and the tangent cone becomes a tangent plane. Any one geographic meridian is chosen as the central meridian and represented by a straight line, divided to exact scale. The geographic parallels are represented by circular arcs, also divided to exact scale, and the other meridians are curved lines.

C'est une projection équivalente qui n'est qu'un cas particulier de la projection de Bonne où le parallèle origine est le parallèle du pôle. Le cône tangent se réduit alors à un plan tangent. Tout méridien peut être choisi comme méridien central et est représenté par une droite. Les parallèles sont représentés par des arcs de cercles. Les autres méridiens que le méridien central sont représentés par des courbes transcendantes.
