Wall clouds can range from a fraction of a mile up to nearly five miles in diameter, and normally are found on the south or southwest (inflow) side of the thunderstorm. Even though this cloud is lowering, it remains attached to the rain free cloud base of the thunderstorm. It is usually located south or southwest of the visible precipitation area, and marks the strongest updraft in the thunderstorm. The wall cloud develops as the strong updraft draws in surface moisture from several miles away.

Le précurseur typique de la tornade est le mur de nuages. C'est une partie de la base du nuage qui semble s'abaisser vers le sol. On le trouve normalement sur le flanc arrière droit de l'orage. They were represented by two wooden bars of 32 mm diameter and 1 m length, i. e. the surface area equals 0, 1 m² per 1 bar. Bars were placed horizontally and perpendicularly to each other. First of them was oriented in north-south direction, the second east-west. The amount of water was measured and result recalculated to kg. m-². These ice meter bars made possible quite reliable evaluation of the icing without having the continual measurement. Nevertheless they are not used contemporary in the meteorological service.

For a pure, confined vapor, it is that vapor’s pressure on the walls of its containing vessel; and for a vapor mixed with other vapors of gases, it is that vapor’s contribution to the total pressure (i.e., its partial pressure).

In meteorology, vapor pressure is used almost exclusively to denote the partial pressure of water vapor in the atmosphere. Care must be exercised in interpreting the term's meaning as used in other branches of science.

La pression de vapeur d'un liquide pur est la pression exercée par les molécules de gaz au-dessus du liquide. Elle se mesure dans un système fermé à l'équilibre. Un liquide est d'autant plus volatil que sa pression de vapeur est grande.

On appelle tension de vapeur d'un liquide pur, la pression sous laquelle ce liquide est en équilibre avec sa vapeur saturante. La tension de vapeur n'est fonction que de la température et de la nature du corps, c'est-à-dire que, pour un liquide déterminé, elle ne dépend que de la température. À une température donnée correspond pour le liquide considéré une tension de vapeur fixe.
