[The computer peripheral equipment operator operates] computer peripheral equipment, such as printer, plotter, computer output microfiche machine, and document reader-sorter to transfer data to and from computer and to convert data from one format to another. Reads instructions and schedule, such as schedule of documents to be printed, or receives instructions from supervisor orally, to determine work for shift. Mounts reels and cartridges of magnetic tape in tape drives, loads paper in printer, loads checks or other documents in magnetic ink reader-sorter or optical character reader, sets guides, keys, and switches, enters commands into computer, using computer terminal, and performs other tasks, to start and operate peripheral machines.

En una sala de computadoras (ordenadores) con mucho trabajo, se asigna la consola (pupitre) de trabajo al operador de la computadora el cual raras veces la abandona. El resto del personal puede ayudar a montar y desmontar los paquetes de discos y cintas, rotulando las salidas y operando varios dispositivos de entrada/salida según sea necesario. The Orbiter Docking System(ODS)... provided a means to connect and disconnect the shuttle with the Russian Space Station Mir. It is now used on the International Space Station(ISS). The ODS also allows for transfer of crew and equipment between the shuttle and the ISS [International Space Station]. One of the major components of the ODS is the Russian androgynous peripheral docking assembly(APDA), which automatically docks the shuttle after contact is made. For ISS missions, the ODS is a fully functional airlock complete with spacesuit services and new communications.

The condensate that forms in the dryer cylinders is removed by a specially-designed syphon assembly.... at the high speeds of modern paper machines, the condensate layer has become so immobilized that even a very thin layer is a significant impediment to heat flow. Fortunately, the condensate layer still has some peripheral motion at high machine speed. This motion can be converted into a wave action by means of "dryer bars" attached axially to the interior surface of the dryer cylinder. This wave action(called "sloshing") greatly decreases the thermal resistance of the rimming condensate, and thus allows an increased rate of heat transfer.
