Paragliders have no rigid structure and are kept in shape by the internal pressure of air, with the pilot suspended by lines beneath. The pilot is clipped into a harness and oriented in a sitting position for maximum comfort. After laying out the wing and lines, launching is simply a matter of moving down the slope a few steps to tension the lines and allow the wind to inflate the wing and raise it above you. Paragliding launches are not as "committing"; if you want to stop your launch, you just stop running and the canopy floats down behind you. Le décollage s'effectue en général dans une pente. Le parapentiste place son aile à terre, bien étalée (en forme de corolle) et face à la pente. Il s'installe dans sa sellette en veillant bien à respecter les vérifications d'usage (points d'accrochages de la sellette, casque, radio et pas de nœuds dans les suspentes). Bubble canopies have been in use since World War II. The British had already developed the "Malcolm hood", which was a bulged canopy, but the British Miles M.20 was one of the first aircraft designs to feature a true bubble canopy. Although it never went into production the idea of the bubble canopy was used on other British fighters, such as the Typhoon and Tempest. Tri-Plane Roatations : This exercise involves building a tri-plane. Student is pilot, Instructor A second, Instructor B third. Student leans forward in his harness and applies brakes to float up, creating a two stack with a third canopy planed(called a "One-Two") formation. He then releases his foot grips and roatates up, back and over the top of the biplane, and uses risers to get his canopy level with the shoulders of Instructor B. He then docks on Instructor B, and applies brakes to plane cleanly.
