Slow flight is... the name given to a training maneuver where a pilot(often accompanied by a flight instructor) flies to a safe altitude and then deliberately slows the airplane to a speed just above its stall speed. Control-line model airplanes are flown in a circle, attached to a handle by a set of lines. The pilot can control the flight of the model by manipulating the handle. Gyroscopes can be used as devices for direction finding, guidance, and control. A free(perfectly balanced) gyroscope can give a constant indication of a chosen reference direction for checking the correct course, and a gravitationally loaded gyroscope can be used to identify the true vertical at all times and so define an artificial horizon against which the pilot can measure the angles of bank and climb.

From that position the Space Shuttle waits for clearance from Mission Control to continue. The gyropilot, commonly called an automatic pilot(q. v.), consists basically of three devices, each of which detects disturbances for the aircraft in one plane and corrects for these disturbances by moving the appropriate control : the rudder control for azimuth and sudden change in heading(yaw) disturbances, aileron control for roll disturbance, and elevator control for pitch disturbance. In modern gyropilots rate detection forms the principal reference and displacements detection plays a secondary role. In such designs yaw disturbance is detected by a rate gyroscope and the change in heading is detected by the associated gyrocompass.

Consisting of glasses with VISI-TRONIC lens and a solid state simulator control, the pilot's visual range can be reduced from one mile to zero-zero by adjusting the RVR selector. While the lower inside quadrant of the lens is clear, the remaining 80% is obscured in fog-like appearance. If the pilot looks outside the cockpit, the lower quadrant will fog instantly but will clear once he returns to the instruments.
