The IRS/CIS Project was developed to improve the Indian Registration System(IRS) and its user access and to introduce a more secure and dignified Certificate of Indian Status. The Project includes 4 phases, which are(1) an enhancement of the Alberta Treaty 7 Pilot Project,(2) re-engineering the IRS,(3) national implementation of the re-engineered IRS, and(4) national implementation of the new secure status card. The first 3 phases have been funded, while Phase 4 remains unfunded.

Le projet SII/CSI a été développé afin d'améliorer le Système d'inscription des Indiens et l'accès des utilisateurs aux données du SII et de remplacer la carte existante par un Certificat du statut d'Indien (CSI) plus sûr et plus convenable. Le projet est divisé en 4 étapes dont la première étape est de l'amélioration du projet pilote de CSI des Premières nations assujetties au Traité 7, la deuxième étape est de la refonte du SII, la troisième étape est de la mise en œuvre du SII à l'échelle nationale et la quatrième étape est de la mise en œuvre et du déploiement du CSI à l'échelle nationale. Le financement a été effectué pour les trois premières étapes et l'étape 4 est non consolidé.

Performance management consists essentially of calculating the optimum parameters for each phase of flight, such as climb, cruise and descent, and for the flight as a whole, taking into account the characteristics of the aircraft, the flight plan, the known meteorological conditions and so on. The pilot can set the system to achieve minimum consumption, lowest cost or best time. The computations make it possible to predict cost, so that the pilot can propose a change in flight conditions to the FMS and discover what effect it might have on cost if he were to put it into practice.

The United Nations University(UNU) project on "Natural Disaster Risk Management" places natural disaster management within the context of sustainable development. During the year, work was carried out to finalize a theoretical framework for the analysis of social vulnerability and its inclusion into disaster management planning. This novel concept was tested in a pilot phase and presented to scientific audiences in workshops organized in China, Fiji and Germany. In the next phase, the project will begin applying the framework in several case studies. This work is intended to make an important contribution to the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction(IDNDR).
