The reverse thrust system provides means of decelerating aircraft during the landing roll, thus reducing landing roll length. The thrust reverser units are attached at the turbine outlet case of each engine.... The reversers are controlled by reverse thrust levers and operated by 13th stage engine bleed air. That’s why sometimes the effect is called the Doppler-Fizeau effect.

The main advantage of a focused synthetic aperture is that it increases its array length over those radar signals that can be processed, and thus increases potential SAR resolution at any range. SAR focusing is a necessary process when the length of a synthetic array is a significant fraction of the range to ground being imaged, as the lines-of-sight(range) from a particular point on the ground to each individual element of the array differ in distance. These range differences, or path length differences, of the radar signals can affect image quality. In a focused SAR image these phase errors can be compensated for by applying a phase correction to the return signal at each synthetic aperture element. Focusing errors may be introduced by unknown or uncorrected platform motion. In an unfocused SAR image, the usable synthetic aperture length is quite limited.

Roughness length z0 is a measure of the roughness of the surface. It is not normally measured directly, but is defined as the height at which the wind speed becomes zero. It is generally not the same as surface height. For example z0 for a forest is always greater than z0 for short grass.... From the point of view of surface layer ground based measurements, z0 is useful in estimating the effect of the ground on the flow. Especially, large values of z0 give larger mean eddy sizes...

La hauteur de mélange correspond à l'épaisseur de la couche atmosphérique près du sol dans laquelle les polluants peuvent se disperser en quelques heures. Deux principaux mécanismes permettent aux polluants de se disperser rapidement dans la verticale : la turbulence thermique et la turbulence mécanique. La turbulence thermique se produit lorsque l'air est moins dense près du sol, par exemple lors d'une journée ensoleillée et chaude. La turbulence mécanique est due à la variation verticale du vent et elle augmente lorsque les vents sont forts et que la surface du sol est rugueuse. Le programme d'Environnement Canada qui estime la hauteur de mélange, [...] comporte maintenant certains paramètres d'ajustement, dont le principal est celui de la longueur de rugosité. La valeur de ce paramètre dépend de l'environnement dans un rayon de 5 km du site modélisé. Par exemple, la longueur de rugosité en milieu fortement urbanisé est d'environ 1 m, tandis qu'elle est de quelques centimètres au-dessus de surfaces gazonnées. Il est important de noter que les vitesses de vent aux stations météorologiques synoptiques (situées dans les aéroports) sont généralement mesurées au-dessus de surfaces dont la longueur de rugosité est petite (quelques cm). Si les vents étaient mesurés au-dessus de surfaces très rugueuses, leurs valeurs seraient beaucoup plus faibles.
