Je suis Neevee la Caribou. D'abord, j'aime ça avoir beaucoup de monde autour de moi. Je suis habituée : je voyage souvent avec des milliers d'autres caribous et ils me trouvent tous très gentille. Et puis nous autres les caribous, on est comme les oiseaux. Quand l'hiver arrive et que la neige recouvre la toundra, on descend plus au sud, là où on peut trouver quelque chose à manger. Ça veut dire des centaines de kilomètres de route! Je vous dis que ça prend de bonnes jambes pour suivre le troupeau.

The polar ice sheets are sedimentary deposits that contain records of past precipitation, atmospheric gases and wind blown material that was deposited without water or ice precipitation. Deep polar ice can be collected from these stratigraphic sequences by deep ice coring and used to address many high profile questions about the structure and function of the earth system.

A group of scientists has identified a subglacial lake in Antarctica that could serve as a testing ground for sterile drilling into deep polar ice. Scientists are eager to examine any bacteria living in subglacial lakes, since the environment is so extreme and the organisms have likely been evolutionarily isolated for millions of years.

When arctic-origin air in winter flows southward (northward in the southern hemisphere) across (relatively) warmer seas, strong surface heating acts both to enhance the degree of instability, and trigger vigorous moist convective towers.
