Maleic resins. These resins are made by reacting maleic acid or anhydride with a polyhydric alcohol such as glycerin in the presence of rosin or ester gum. They have very fast solvent release, good compatibility with nitrocellulose, and good sanding properties.... Maleic resins also have a fast dry and good color retention so that they can be used in quick-drying white coatings.

Los polioles, también llamados polialcoholes o alcoholes polihídricos, son unos compuestos cuya estructura química se parece en parte a la de los azúcares y en parte a la de los alcoholes. Los polioles más utilizados en alimentación son el sorbitol, manitol, maltitol, xilitol, lactitol, isomaltosa, eritritol, y los almidones hidrolizados hidrogenados.

En el campo de los plásticos celulares el término poliol incluye compuestos que contienen grupos hidróxilos alcohólicos como poliéteres, glicoles, poliésteres y aceite de castor utilizados en espumas de uretano.

An oil modified, synthetic resin generally made from the combination of poly basic acids(phthalic acid, maleic anhydride), polyhydric alcohols(glycerol, pentaerythritol) and oils(linseed, soya, tung). Alkyds are considered "oil modified polyesters" and are generally diluted with hydrocarbon solvents to make varnishes and alkyd paints.

Any of the acyclic linear polyhydric alcohols; may be considered sugars in which the aldehydic group of the first carbon atom is reduced to a primary alcohol; classified according to the number of hydroxyl groups in the molecule; sorbitol(D-glucitol, sorbite) is one of the most widespread of all the naturally occurring sugar alcohols.
