The aircraft sustained damage to its right wing, right landing gear leg, and horizontal stabilizer.

A dihedral wing is producing equal lift on the port and the starboard wing in straight and level flight. If the starboard wing dips, it's vertical lift component will begin to increase and it's horizontal lift component will begin to decrease until the wing is parallel to the flow(trigonometry and the lift force components on your wing) and at the same time the vertical lift component on the port wing will decrease. This makes the starboard wing rise and the port wing dip until it reaches it's equilibrium position(hopefully, level and straight).

En s'abaissant, l'aileron de droite devrait augmenter la portance sur l'aile droite mais, en pratique, il est possible qu'il la réduise en augmentant l'angle d'attaque au-delà de l'angle de portance maximal. Mais ce qui est tout à fait certain, c'est que la traînée de l'aile droite augmente énormément et tend à retenir l'aile pour faire tourner l'avion à droite.

The fire extinguishing equipment for an airliner such as the Douglas DC-10 incorporates three systems with six pressurized agent containers, two for each engine. The containers for the wing-mounted engines are located in pairs in the leading edge of the wing between the nacelle and the fuselage on each side of the aircraft.... The discharge cartridge is an electrically fired explosive unit that provides force to rupture the disk seal in the outlet port of the container and release the extinguishing agent to the deployment lines. One discharge cartridge is installed on each wing-mounted container and two are installed on the aft-engine container. The discharge cartridge contains two squibs(explosive charges) that are fired by an electric circuit that heats the powder to the ignition point. When the fire extinguisher control handle is pulled down, the electric circuit is closed and the squibs are fired. The force of the explosion ruptures the disk seal, thus releasing the extinguishing agent. A screen in the discharge head prevents particles of the disk from entering the deployment line.

The deployment sequence took almost two hours and was completed at 9 : 46 pm as the extension moved in small steps.
