A common early rural domestic building style was a single room log house, or pen as the architects call it. Often the attic was used as a sleeping loft. As the family grew, a second log house would be built adjacent to the first. The two buildings, or double pens, could be joined by a common roof and a wood floor between the buildings could be added. The space created between the two buildings is called a dogtrot. The water lily pond is built to house beautiful water lilies(hardy + tropical), marginal plants and lotus. This is a complete world with 1, 000's of plants to choose from. These ponds require a minimum of 4-6 hours of sunlight, usually, in order for the majority of plants to thrive(shade or partial shade is fine for fish and fountains). Shade houses may either be large walk-in structures (or) low covered frames.
