The Canadian Aboriginal Science and Engineering Association is a private, non-profit organization, which seeks to significantly increase the number of Aboriginal scientists and engineers in the nation and to develop technologically informed leasers within the Aboriginal community. CASEA's ultimate goal is to be catalyst for the advancement of Aboriginal peoples as they seek to become self-reliant and self-determined members of society. CESEA in partnership with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society begins working as early as elementary school through the development of science and math camps, teacher training and mentor ship programs to strengthen Aboriginal students’ educational background in math and science, and to prepare them for the academic pressures of post-secondary school life. At the college and university levels, scholarships will be developed and sought from corporate sponsors. Recruiting opportunities to further prepare Aboriginal students for successful science and engineering careers will be available through the CASEA contact network. Canada's Walk of Fame, Toronto, Ontario is a walk of fame that acknowledges the achievements and accomplishments of successful Canadians. It consists of a series of stars imbedded in 13 designated blocks worth of sidewalks in Toronto, located in front of Roy Thomson Hall, The Princess of Wales Theatre, and The Royal Alexandra Theatre on King Street as well as Simcoe Street. The first group of members was inducted in 1998, and it has since expanded to include a young filmakers competition and there are plans for a permanent museum. There are 113 Canadians on the walk of fame, including athletes; coaches; actors, directors, writers and producers of movies, television and stage; singers, songwriters and musicians; playwrights; authors; comedians; cartoonists and supermodels. The Walk of Fame was first conceived back in 1996 when founder and current president Peter Soumalias suggested the idea of a Walk of Fame for famous Torontonians to the board of the Toronto Entertainment District Association. They rejected his idea but he went on to establish a Walk of Fame for Canadians in partnership with Bill Ballard, Dusty Cohl and Gary Slaight. The Earth Sciences Sector(ESS) of Natural Resources Canada is committed to increasing its involvement in strengthening the capacity of developing countries. For decades, Canada has worked in partnership with developing countries in applying geomatics and geoscience technologies to address a wide variety of important economic, environmental and social issues. This effort has led to immproved capabilities of these countries to achieve sustainable development and better living conditions, while fostering long-term relationships between Canada and the developing world. To allow Canada and ESS to build on many successful technology transfer projects and to seek out new partnerships, ESS is launching a new initiative called The Earth Sciences International Capacity Development Centre. The Lifeline Program is an innovative service provided in partnership with CSC, the National Parole Board and non-governmental organisations. It is a correctional concept involving convicted, but paroled, men and women serving life sentences who have been successfully reintegrated into the community for at least five years. The mission of Lifeline is to provide, through the In-Reach component and community endeavours, an opportunity to motivate inmates and to marshal resources to achieve successful, supervised, gradual reintegration into the community. Canadian Rural Partnership, Pilot Projects 2000-2001. Northwest Territories. The Community Gardening Society of Inuvik has converted a decommissioned arena into a community greenhouse which will extend the growing season of numerous plants and vegetables, ensure a successful harvest and allow production of a greater variety of fresh produce. Greenhouse officials also plan to study the effect of longer summer hours on crops. This program has been made possible through a funding partnership with Human Resources Development Canada(HRDC). Aboriginal people interested in a career with the RCMP who do not meet the basic entrance requirements, but otherwise would be suitable candidates are enrolled as cadets on the ACDP. Following a three week assessment period at Depot Division in Regina, Saskatchewan, the cadets return to a detachment in their home area(usually) with a program designed to assist them to address identified shortcomings. The cadets receive an allowance, and have up to two years to attain the basic entrance requirements; once successful they proceed to Regina to undergo basic cadet training. Ce programme a été rendu possible grâce à un partenariat avec Développement des ressources humaines Canada (DRHC). Il s'adresse aux Autochtones intéressés à faire carrière dans la Gendarmerie royale du Canada et qui ne satisfont pas aux exigences fondamentales d'admission, mais qui pourraient autrement constituer des candidats intéressants. Ces personnes sont enrôlées comme cadets dans le PVCA. Après une période d'évaluation de trois semaines à la Division Dépôt à Regina (Saskatchewan), les cadets retournent au détachement de leur localité (autant que possible) avec un programme conçu pour les aider à combler leurs lacunes. Les cadets reçoivent une allocation et ont jusqu'à deux ans pour satisfaire aux critères fondamentaux d'admission. Une fois qu'ils ont réussi, on les envoie suivre la formation de base des cadets à Regina.
